When is Qatar joining the EU Pet Passport Scheme (PETS)?
Once our contracts have concluded here in Doha (September 09); my husband and I will be relocating to London, UK.
Our beloved “Chutney” hails from Seychelles, was raised in South Africa and has now traveled with us here to Qatar.
Having saved my life when the tsunami hit Seychelles on 26 December 2004, this very special and unique little dog is my constant companion and most importantly my dearest and most loyal friend.
Chutney is just too sensitive to endure 6 months of quarantine in the UK.
Please advise me on how to help my special four-legged friend!
And, PLEASE, I implore the Qatari government to join PETS!
Can we not have this on the main page!!!!!!!
Hi Mercia,
Thanks for the reminder! I will speak to Janet she's great and was wonderful when she make all the arrangements for Chutney on her arrival here.
Yes, 6 months is crazy for a pet who has every test and document imaginable (just not the official passport)... Not only is it too much for Chutney but I can't stand to be without her for a day, let alone months!
Thanks and take care!
I faced this problem with a cat coming from Egypt to England. There is a way around the 6 months quarantine - take the dog to Paris by plane, and have the dog lodged in an animal shelter there, or with a pet-sitter, for 6 months. In that time it will qualify for the EU passport for pets. The pet-sitter can do this very easily with the local vet, acting as your agent. After 6 months, you can drive across to Paris and bring the dog back by car through the Eurotunnel. There are no particular costs to this procedure, except that a) the pet sitter will charge rather a lot and b) getting the dog by air from Doha to Paris will cost about as much as a normal airline ticket for a passenger. On arrival in France, there will be some veterinary charges - rabies shot, test, cost of passport. All in all, it's a very expensive procedure which won't cost less than $3000.
The only other option is to send the dog to Dubai or Bahrain to qualify for its passport.
Good luck with whatever you manage!
