MikaylasMom, sorry, but I'm not going to say on a public forum which nursery my daughter goes to! Too many nutcases around! Needless to say its a good one with a webcam...now surely that won't take too much searching for will it?

Dora, you can't just mention that your nursery has webcams and then not expect mom's to want to know which one it is. The fact of the matter is that there may be good nurseries here, but it is extremely difficult to find them. We hear all these horror stories about nurseries here, so if you know of good ones, share the info. It's up to the nursery to accept the new kids or not.

Hi Dora, could you please tell me which nursery your daughter goes to?...and is the webcam in all the rooms? like you could see her 24/7? thank you :)

ofcourse there is no right or wrong everyone has different views, the original poster was asking for our opinions so we gave them!

when I talk about a nanny for a 1 yr old , I am not talking about the "housekeeper". There are plenty of educated/teachers fillipinos around, who are really good with children. But it all comes down our own individual prefrence. I think this is one of those topics where there is no worng or right answer!

sorry, disagree, just make sure your baby goes to a reputable nursery.....my nursery has a webcam and i can see her all the time she is there....I would rather that than a nanny at home thats more bothered about getting food ready for 'Sir' and making beds and cleaning toilets!......think about it......they're worth is more what their employers 'see' ie housework...than the welfare of your baby!

I am one fo those mothers who left work to be with the children, and no I don't have 1 yr old, my youngest is 4:) but I also understand that not everyone has a choice to leave work. Before moving to Doha, i had not gone back to work from the time my first child was born, and if and when needed, my family was there to look after them so thy were never introduced to babysitters or daycare. After moving here they were introduced to thier "Nanny", I loved her because she was the best housekeeper I could ask for :) but really my children were very unhappy, eventhough they only spended 2hours a day with her, from the time she picked them from school and to the time I got home or ocassionaly on weekends, but at the end I and my husband decided that it was in the best interest for my children that I stay home. So If I had a 1yr old and had to work, I would choose nanny over a daycare, but my advice, keep the wireless cameras on around the house if you are leaving child that young homealone with a nanny, you really want to know how they are being treated when you are not home.

I sent my daughter to nursery at 5 months old because thats all the maternity leave I had...don't worry about putting your baby into a nursery ( a good one though) so young....if they are an only an only child it teaches them to socialise and learn at the same time....also gives you space and THAT is just as important..it really is......

hi all,

my boy is now 1 year 3months old

i am also thinking if this age is good to put him in nursery.

i am a stay at home mum, but also need some time out and most important ,i want my son to learn and socialize with other kids. but iam still wondering while i slowly search for a good nursery, is it a good time to put my baby in a nursery? i main, for like around 2-3 days in a week for a start. pls shear ur opinion.

thanks in advance

action speaks louder than words

I didn't have a car when I first got here so got Taxis to and from nursery. I say its not healthy to be around each other all day, day in day out. you both need space and imagine the problems when he starts school!!

By anonymous• 12 Feb 2009 21:16

Bintekhalid, don't worry honey, a one year old will love nursery and mingling with other children and you child will learn to be sociable at a young age...there is nothing wrong with...don't worry :)

By anonymous• 12 Feb 2009 21:15

but its all up to you that if u preffered nanny then if she educated and knows some kid's game and help him in learning then its better,

in my case,i don't ve car to pick & drop my son in the nursery so i dropped this idea

sanic you r right,1 year age is so small for nursury, thats why i also leave my job but how can we find a good nanny?this is a big question.

so when my son was going to 6th month i started a private nursury at my home & i give my attention to my kid and as well as others.when u became a moher you better understand the child's problem.

Correct.....I am a working mother so hearing do gooders saying that such an such an age is too young for nursery winds me up.....I don't have much choice really!!

Ah I see you want to judge - obviously my experience doesn't make me as great a caregiver as you and my input not as valid! I am giving my opinion - I never asked anyone to take it on board - but it is MY opinion!

Dora - of course I am biased....but I have also done some nursery work over the years and felt awful for the kids that got dropped off in the morning, picked up in the evening and home in time for dinner, bath and bed!!! That is tough on a small child!!!

Re-read my post - I did say that a western nanny is different to most 'nannies' here - and I also said you get what you pay for!!! No one makes you hire someone who is rubbish - I have met some filipino and indian nannies here who are great, interact with the kids well, play games/do activities and genuinely care about their charges.

And western nannies/governess's like me - we'll never be out of work - there are always parents somewhere in the world who want the support we give even when the kids are at school all day!

By anonymous• 12 Feb 2009 12:56

SANic, your biased then....we aint talking Norland nannies here in Doha, more like illiterate house keepers that are Jacks of all trades and masters of none. I have a 'nanny' she doesn't educate nor would I want her to, thats for an educational establishment to do IMHO.

Also SANic, if all children went to nursery full time, you'd be out of a job wouldn't you ;)

I honestly think that most Nannys offer or try to offer what the mother can't or won't! I tried a nanny and she was great but did not offer what a mother, me, should have. So I sacked her and finished work and then looked after my kids myself and sent them to Nursery part time whilst I worked from home. That was a much better arrangement. Got them up, bathed them, dressed them, took them to Nursery, I had a few hours and then I picked them up. It was great, picnics, play dates, park etc. They got the best of both worlds.

Dora - a good nanny will organize educational activities and provide a good routine with variation and stimulation. And a good nanny will also do outings to parks/playdates etc so your child gets stimulation! A western nanny is VERY different to the many 'nannies' that are employed here. Where most of them are employed more for house keeping/cleaning and to keep an eye on the children. If you want someone educated and with experience or trained you will have to expect to pay more. And then at least your young child is in your home. But if you luck out and find a great nursery then well done. I personally think that 1 years old is young to spend a full day at nursery. I have worked as a nanny/governess for the past 12 years and think that when they are older a nursery is the perfect environment - but when they are small it is better for them to be home.

Kan anyone rekomend a company which is helping to find nanny?

By anonymous• 10 Feb 2009 13:29

Nursery definately! To learn social skills etc, use it as a learning experience.

A nanny will not educate especially if the nanny doesn't speak the same language!

I always wonder what a nanny does all day with small kids?

my wife refused a very good offer just because of the same reason... we both didn't have enough courage to leave our one year old baby with nanny or at nursery... but that was our case.. :-)

nursery is better if you want your child to mingle w/ other kids

yeah they are all right.

Just also weigh the financial aspect of acquiring nanny or nursery.
