I believe that you can drive for a week on an international driving licence during which time you will need to be applying for a Qatar driving licence (which can take 3 weeks maybe). Even so, best check with the local authority and get applying asap
No clear guideline from the authorities on this but the insurance companies state - one week from date of arrival into Qatar. Thereafter if u would need to convert your license (provided it is from a GCC state, UK, US etc) to a temporary license which would be valid for the period of the visa.
Thereafter if you get an RP then the temporary license will be converted into a permanent one.
The temporary license can be obtained from the traffic dept.
