maaverix, may I ask what you based your answer on?
On a cropped sensor it is not very wide.
If he's into sports or wildlife it's not very long and overall it's not very fast either.
If he asked for an average lens as the only lens to buy this might fit the bill but as the BEST lens - this ain't.

to be able to help you, we need to know what kind of objects you plan to take photos off. generrally you need to get one with the lowest f number possible. a VR lens is usefull. also make sure you get a dx lens(fx lenses would not give good pics on your camera)

That's too vague a question! What sort of photos do you want to take? What's your budget?
