I just got my PhD from the University of Toronto, in structure Engineering. I am going to Doha next Month to join my husband there. Does anyone know how hard it would be for me to find a job there? Thank you!

What you will find it difficult is to comprehend to the people around here. And I mean veeeery difficult...specially for a Ph.D like you. Just get ready to turn your world and proficiency upside-down once you're hired in here.

I am planning to start job-hunting after i get there too. You are right--most likely, i will start it several months after i get there, to make sure that i am good with the new environment there.

It is so nice of you to offer the referral. I know a referral means a lot for a graduate like me. Most of my colleagues at U of T got referrals from alumni who have been working and got positions even before they graduated. I am one of them. However, since i am leaving Toronto,I have to give up the opportunity here.

Thanks again for your kindness :)

or big-time contractors that may need your skills. Baldrick is right, better apply when you're here so you will have to adjust yourself for the all conditions here in Qatar. I can even give you a referral but no guarantee since present condition here right now is unstable.

There ARE jobs waiting to be filled, but it's best for you to be here and apply in person. A female friend of mine has just secured a job as a lawyer with a major firm here by walking in with her resume!

In normal times it would've been really easy for you to get into our offshore structural engineering (facilities) department as a graduate trainee. But, times aren't "normal" right now, so I wish you all the best.
