Is a full-on 4x4 really necessary?

Can't decide whether to get caught up in the moment and empty my pockets on a full-on 4x4 (i.e. Prado/Pathfinder/Xterra/FJ Cruiser etc) or stay sane and go for something smaller (Sportage/Tucson etc).
Won't be doing heavy or regular off-roading, but I do want to be able to go to the Inland Sea whenever I want. Question is.....will the sensible option be able to handle it across the dunes?
A good off-road driver will never advise/suggest you to buy Korean 4 x 4 especially if you plan to go to Inland sea. Korean cars are plastic toys and will breakdown after 3 or 4 trips to Inland sea. Toyota Land cruiser or Nissan patrol is the first choice, you can also consider Pajero.

Our santafe managed to go to inland sea no problem. Is not the car. It is the driver :)
You call the small 4x4s (Prado/Pathfinder/Xterra/FJ Cruiser etc) "Full-On"???
You should get a real "Full-On" 4x4 just for Doha's Road... I LandCruiser, Nissan Patrol, RangeRover, Hummer, ...
