Novita, the schengen visa is checked at the first point of entry into the EU country (London, Spain, ...) then you are free to roam any of the 14-24 EU countries without being checked by immigration. But note that at the time of booking your railway tickets to cross into all other EU countries, they asked your passport and take copy of visa to ensure that you are an official visitor to EU countries.
overall you have to satisfy embassy staff that you are real traveller coming back after trip.each year I am going 3or 4 times to farnce, germeny and Italia nobody took care from where you got visa.if you travel from outside europe, once they stamp,if you travel inside erope nobody bother to check your passpprt. but they have right to check.many times{ before }I travelled from my London hotel to Paris or belgium, nobody even smiled to me(now situation is little different, they some times smile to you)

good luck and have a nice trip.
My personal experience they never checked your passport when you arrived in schengen countries.
Arrived in France by train from London, straight through and no immigration.
Same case when I went to greece (Corfu) and spain (gran canary island) no passport control.
If you plan to travel around schengen countries, you will have to apply your visa from the country of entry.

They won't ask for a formal obligation letter from your host if you can provide them a hotel booking.
