Qatar Philharmonic

So I went to my first Doha "event" tonight.

Qatar Philharmonic! I was very impressed with the talent. Does Doha have a music school? The conductor was an animated young man. I was watching him in his element, waving his hands like he had an invisible magic wand. His body would punctuate certain beats. I'm not a musician (I got kicked out of choir in grade 5) so I was curious how all the musicians could play their instruments, read the music, and keep an eye on the conductor. I intently watched, yet I don't think I saw anyone's eyes glance his way. How do they know what to do?

The baritone was charismatic. He made me smile with his actions that he used to illustrate the lyrics. The soprano had quite the range. I was close enough that I could hear her as she took her breaths, and I could see her rib cage fill with air as she sang her notes. Their expressions communicated emotions far beyond the language that I did not understand.

All that and yummy desserts, what more could I ask for from my first event?

This is new for qatar. they started performing only few months ago.. and yes, they are impressive.. but they are not qataris.. the musicians in the orchestra are from all over the world.. they had to win a serious competition...only the best are selected.. they bring a different conductor almost every performance.. the singers (if any) are also different...
