some standards of Qatar i really admire

1. Prohibition of liquor/cigarettes - in our country Phils.everyone can buy it in everywhere. It really bothers me because the most affected by these are the youths. I have a brother who still going to college and at his age of 20 he always come home late, drunk because of nightouts with his friends. He also smokes. I and my parents were concern of him and always reminding him to stop but because every store in our place sells these items its hard to make him stop plus he's also hardheaded. oh, well. Also, because of liquors many young girls were engaged in early pregnancy and committing abortion. and they say youth is the future leaders of our country. It's alarming.

2. Minimalist - building designs, cars , road signs, billboards.. all are controlled and organize.

3. Patriotic - obviously, citizens here they loved their own country because of excellent governance. Pinoys always on strike hating the Philippine Government or hating the way Philippines now as crisis being felt by so many because of graft and corruption by government officials.

They're pretty much a bit unbelievable, though.

What prohibition of cigarettes? What minimalism in design? What patriotism? What da hell are you talking about?

dont blame the cigarettes and liquors sold everywhere for the behavior of your brother, something must be wrong in his upbringing... and you know, personality starts from "home"... ;)

cannabis2009, why don't you think before you post... you think shouting it here will change the Philippines? think again..

I know, how you feel and I can imagine you teary eyed while writing this stuffs, but I don't think this is the right place for sharing sentiments about the Philippines as you know that 300,000 people could misinterpret you... I've been seeing you posting for two days now and this sets remarks on your name.

If you can't accept other comments and replies, why post? take it or leave it..

BTW - we have similar issues in Canada as well - why would I have to visit the Philippines to be able to understand what is happening in 90% of the developed world?

The Philippines is a beautiful country with many good people too - why not concentrate on them? Or at least take action to help those who are influenced by the harmful afffects of smoking and alcohol. I understand you are very concerned about your family - I've seen similar circumstances in my own, but I don't denigrate my entire country because of some (the minority) who are facing challenges of their own choosing.

It says on your profile that your nationality is Qatari. Also Mary was not calling you stupid, that's her signature.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

have you already been to my place or at least stay with a family in the philippines? have you already go out with young girls and boys who go out at night to drink and see their activities when already drunk? Have you been to Manila(Capital City of Philippines) and took a cab, a tricy, a jeepney, a padjak (bicycle with sidecar used also for transpo), have you seen the buildings in the city? or the pollutions?? In every corner, street, school, university, canteen or stores smoking is very common. I already said anywhere you can see a person smoking right? Understand? And have you already felt how much worst our government and as a citizen of our country and being born in it, i must say i know what i am saying and my beliefs. and before you call someone stupid answer all my questions first before you say something unacceptable. May i also suggest that when you post your ideas give suggestion and comments at your highest sense and not using your emotions. Now, who's stupid!

There is no ban on cigarettes here - in fact, smoking is pretty common among young men (and some young women as well - but often they only smoke behind closed doors).

Gee, I didn't know that liquor made you pregnant!!! I thought that there was another way - I also disagree with girls being solely responsible for getting pregnant - it takes two to tango.

Minimalist? The amount of gluttony displayed in the GCC is unmatched elsewhere - over consumption of luxury brands, conspicuous consumption, waste of water, electricity and oil (even though there's lots of the latter, that doesn't mean you should waste it). And certainly the cars (at least the drivers) are not controlled except if they see the speed camera.

I do agree that Qataris are very proud of their country - and rightfully so. I also believe that most Philippinos are also proud of their country and believe that they have the right and responsibility to voice their opinions, ideas and beliefs even if they disagree with the government - that's how discussions are made and improvements and change can take place. I'm sure this happens here in Qatar as well, but it is not publicized so oftentimes we are not aware of what is happening.

All countries have good and bad points, things we agree with or admire or things we disagree with and want to change. The latter is our responsibility to act to try and implement change that will improve our own country's society and government for the benefit of ALL citizens.
