Is a salary of 26000 QR per month a decent salary?

I have two kids and hope to enroll them at the American School. My husband will initially come and try to find work once I start. I am trying to decide whether this is a good package. Any advice would be appreciated. I will also in addition to the salary, be given a car loan and furniture loan. I have to pay for the kids school and housing myself.

Thanks
AC

You need to take a hard look at the offer and your expected expenses before making any commitments to come here. At QR26K a month you are looking at a minimum of 10K for housing ("decent" 3bd flat) plus schooling will be ~6K a month for each child. Of your 26K you are looking at only 4K after those two expenses, which is roughly $1,100 USD a month. Can you currently live on $1,100 USD a month back home?

Do not count on your husband to find work here, if he doesn’t have an offer you need to seriously think about staying where you are. On the other hand, if you both get an offer your salary would pay your expenses and you could live off of his.

this is a big family decision and if it all works out your 26k salary, tax free, and your husbands salary should allow u to have a pretty good life. However a lot of people come here, the job doesn't work out or whatever and they are stuck with repaying loans etc. with no resources. I recently bought a car, a little below market value, but he was paying back 16 k more to the bank than I was paying him for a car only 15 months old!

My advice is to come here by yourself if possible, do it now before school holidays, give it ur best shot, if u can survive the summer climate, snd the job works out, let ur family join u in september. By then u will know what hidden costs u will face etc. and more importantly, whether u can work under the restrictions common here in regard to sponsorship etc.

There was a lot of pressure on school places, etc. Do the research before you commit. QL is a good place to start as these problems have been faced by many people in the past.

You should remember that 26k is a fortune to someone earning 400 riyals a month, who has accommodation transport food, tickets home etc. as part of his package,

it is not a fortune to an American particularly when you add these hidden costs.

Research the market for your husband's work, if it's a blue collar or lower admin job forget it! he can't compete in this market with people happy to 1 or 2k a month!

believe me dear this is an awesome opportunity & you cant afford to miss it!

QRS. 26,000/ monthly is a pretty good package. and over that the best thing is that your not gonna be the only one earning.

trust me & go for it, i am sure you'll be thanking me in future ;)

Its not enough for a family. Sensible family accommodation alone will cost you between QR 15,000 and QR 20,000 per month. Plus there are the school fees which are around QR 60,000 per child per year. Add to that the cost of a car loan and you will have to wonder what you will buy food with.

If your partner gets a good job offer then it might be possible.

listen-up anita, read my lips: its a good package. U wont B the only1 earning. the only thing is that whats your 'spending style"? go for an apartment instead of a "VILLA" & get ur kids in any other good school; american school is not the end of the world! welcome & good luck!

Depends - If you can live only in a villa then its 15000, there are cheaper options, you can get two bed aprtments ranging 8000 to 12000 too.

The package , again depends how much you are looking to save from that .

my opinion, regardless to wat ur job will be, 26000QR will not be enough to fulfill ur needs, u can live with 10000QR but the accomodation, transportation and schooling will cost u too much, my advice is to take salary 20000QR net and they have to pay the rest.

Here is the problem: Qatar employers do not pay their female candidates what they do their male employees...and they don't allow females to sponsor their kids, which is why they won't pay for the school. Now this dilemma has only gotten bigger!!!

Bad News

I'm sorry to inform you, but housing and school are the two highest pricest commodities in Qatar. A good villa will easily cost 15,000 a month. It's very expensive here. Also the American School of Doha is the most expensive school here. These are the fees:

Capital (1 time) fee 14,600

Registration fee 3,650

tuition per year 53,000 Per child for 1-12 grade

Most of us have our employers pay these fees. Otherwise we would not agree to come. Good luck.
