Saw the bird in Souq Waqif a few days ago. It's in one of the stores facing towards the corniche, it's called Bird something, with red benches lined outside the store.
I saw there some falcons with caps completely covering their eyes. The storekeeper said only the person who will eventually become its owner can take it off. They believe that the falcon considers the first person he sees to be his master.
I don't know if it's the normal practive with the falcons, but it's seems very cruel to treat the birds like that.
And they are very expensive too, one cost as much as 10,000 riyals.
i have been to that shops where they sell Falcons...i have pics of that shop..i dont remember the name of the shop ...u will find that shop just at back side of the souqe...hmmm say just opposite to AL FANAR...
when i reached there i asked so many people in the souqe that i m looking for Falcons they said they have no idea if there is any shop like that in Souq...lolz
They are kept in these horrible little rooms, chained to ltitle wooden poles. Birds, exscpeically Falcons should not be kept chained, they should be free to fly. Man birds are cool.
Found them last week. There is an alley at on the right if you are facing down towards the coffee shops at the top end of where all the coffee shops are. Walk along the alley (at the end there are a couple of shops selling dodgy watches). Almost in front of you will be a big white guilding. There are some falcon shops on the second floor
Me too Jarreau. I've seen them before, but I was there yesterday and didn't see them. Saw the new animal section, which was rather disturbing, but didn't see any falcons.

Ask for the birds section, maybe you'll find them there. It is a very nice part of Wakif.
