6 day workweek

Oh boy this is really starting to get to me. At first it wasn't that bad, but now I am really frustrated to have only one day off per week. You cannot go camping, travel, watch sports( Saterdays) support you kids sport cause you work. This really sucks.
Last nite we had a exelent time in the desert with SA expats , having a spitbraai, musice etc. As people started piching tents and getting the camp ready my son asked me whay we cannot also stay for the nite. It was a sad moment for him having to leave the friends behind, and waching his buddies playing as we drove off.

I suppose I have to deal with it, as I took the position knowing what the workweek was like.
Who else here on Ql works on weekends, and how do you deal with it?

me and my husband both work 6 days a week.. i feel very bad with one day off as my 4 year old kid feels very sad and becomes dull when we start to work and she has to be with the maid...I would like to resign the job and take care of my little one ... but with this economic crisis everywhere in the world.. i dont want to lose this job.. anyway sacrifices has to be made...

but do remember there are some people here (probably more than we realize) that either work 6 1/2 days or 7 full days a week. For example, my part-time maid works 6 days a week at Hamad Hospital full-time and then works part-time in the mornings as well--6 days a week. Today she is at my house 6am- 10 am then at hamad from noon-10pm. She is a very hard worker.

Too much money...

But I know people who work 12 hours 7 days a week...

And they make low wage...

So I'm not gonna complain...

Yes, it's normal for construction. In fact, my site people work around the clock in shifts. Everyone in my company is here primarily to work and we are on call around the clock. We all work very hard and persevere through our difficulties because we have to make sacrifices to pay our bills and support our families back home.

Bloubul - I am in the same boat.

6days a week with two shifts which has a 3 useless hours wasted in between. :(

It's hard, but think of the money :)

Also, with the economic climate as it is, you may find some companies cutting back to a 5 day week. I know a couple that are planning this already.

I work 6 full days - Sat to Thurs. Not even half day on Thursday. I'm not complaining. Sometimes, it gets to me - since I'm used to working a 5 day week. But sacrifices must be made.
