Bounced Check
hi i would like to ask if anybody knows about bounced check law here in qatar. i know a guy who has bouched a check twice and the company that he issued the check is planning a legal action against him. does anyone knows what will happen to him? what could be the charges? will he be deported? im am asking in behalf of my friend. it is his cousin.

A bounced cheque due to insufficient funds is indeed considered a criminal offence. The recipient of the cheque is at liberty to submit the proof to the police. If this happens, your friend will be called in and the proceedures to follow mentioned by another post are correct.
He should really try and settle the monies to avoid drama.
Your cousin will be called by police and they will put him behind bars untill he clears that amount.
If the matter goes to court, he will be liable to pay cheque amount and the lawyer fee too.
If he fails to pay that than he will be imprisonment for few years depending on the amount and deported. His name and passport no. will be black listed in all GCC countries.
honestly speaking, i dont know the legal action now, but i remember all the years back in 1999, I met a person whose cousin was in prison that time since previous 2 years for the case of Check fraud. I dont know how long he stayed inside.
