USB Modem

Anybody has tried the QTel USB modem, how is the service? Is it fast? Is it no disruptions? Is it always connected once online? The DSL service in my apartment is just annoying, frequently disconnected, especially when browsing QL.

that's what Qtel says as FAir Usage Policy. Please read it at the back of application form. Also available in their website:

Fair Usage Policy: This Unlimited Service plan is offered for reasonable use only. Excessive and continued use of the service beyond that which, in Qtel’s reasonable discretion, is used for normal consumer Service and which, as a result has the potential to negatively impact the quality of service available to other Qtel Subscribers may result in cancellation of the service. The Fair Usage limit for this plan is set at 15GB of local data consumption.

I read with some interest today in the Gulf Times about the "War on drugs" being waged by The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the "... dangers of drugs for human values and dignity." Commendable.

I then read another article in the same paper about a 31 year old national whose sentence by the lower court of possession of hassish in his car, home and on his person had been commuted by the upper court from a 3 year custodial sentence coupled with a QR200,000 fine which had been previously awarded by the lower court to a one year jail sentence (suspended) and a QR10,000 fine. The man, confirmed that he was a dealer and that the drugs were not for personal use although it was forensically proven that he is indeed an addict and having previous convictions for numerous drug and theft related crime. In explaining its decision to commute the sentence, the court said that it had taken into consideration the man's age and his circumstance.

Hi

I know this is an old thread but mine is a new problem - well, new to me anyway!! I bought the E180 QTel USB modem last week and the dowload/uplaod speeds that I am achieving are frankly, rubbish!! Domestics, I live on 4th floor of block in Mumtaza and there are not a lot of users in the block. Yesterday I drove around the towwn testing the download speeds at different locations (it was dusty - what else is there to do!!) and the "statistics" chart was all over the place I guess indicating that the speeds to be achieved vary according to location and Im unlucky in that my location is c***. This device has been on the market 4 or 5 months now and Id appreciate any advice from owners who have encountered and overcome the same problem.

Thanks

Qatarilady

The best way to find out if the Internet speed is right or if it's the computer that makes it feel slow,, log on to www.speedtest.net and have a quich Internet speed test,, takes few seconds and sure is worth it.

peace.

@bleu

I personally do not have track on how much I used but I mostley use the modem for downloading movies and x360 games which is 8gb per game,, now if I still don't get extra charges,, I think it's worth it, btw wat is the limit that u r talking about can u confirm it with a specific number of GB . I am sure u can't because it is just unlimited. and if u ever get the figure pls get in contact with gulf times and not QL. because in hear u can only discuss about it again and again an.......and not complain. so get the figure first then we both can personally try it so that I can even agree and support u and the bunch not happy with qtel.

hey all,,

I am currently using the unlimited plan of the USB modem,, never got any extra charges,, just 400 monthly . for those who don't have this or never experienced this service ,, please don't make unecessary coments and crib about this. no offence. speed for me was always 2 mb on average and sumtyms 2.5 mb if lucky. the modem provided by qtel supports 7mb but only 2 mb is wat u will all get hear,, yes the speed can increase in the future depending on better network implementation in the Doha city footprint. so wateva it is,, been really helpful to me. btw just thought of posting this cause I am planning to sell my modem for 450 riyals as I am using my iPhone 3g as the modem currently,, works like a charm on both USB and Bluetooth . so if anyone interested ,, moste welcome to call 5987108 or pm me. will reach Doha on 15tj august . so if da phone is not reachable pls pm. for now iam busy smoking the gud sh*t at my hotels swimming pool at cox bazar in bangladesh.

peace Doha .

Its just to attract people who are interested in browsing and youtube... not for torrents and rapidshare users.... i guess its useless and stick on to the normal ADSL.. thats good for me and my downloads..

I had the same problem. In my flat, I dont share the ADSL with anyone, still I had the same porblem

atlast purchased , LINKSYS - ADLS modem. There was some special rates like QR.180 and I grabbed. Now it is fine,,, too good connection.

when complaiened to QTEL, they advised me to come to Villagio QTEL outlet and purchase QTEL modem, which I refused and purchased the LINKSYS one

al-wahesh, try downloading 100GB of music and videos (the ads say unlimited videos, and unlimited music)...

Please don't cry when you get your bill.

^longtime? lol...qtel never offered an unlimited mobile broadband connection before, seems u are from Qtel trying to cover up for them.

But its sad to see Qtel resorting to such misleading campaign, if it was another country Qtel would be dragged in courts.

no but they are branding it as "unlimited" connection and giving limited connection so actually misleading and cheating the customers.

Can we complain to ICT againt Qtel for publishing misleading adverts all over doha and providing limited connection when promising unlimited?

Even for the limited "Unlimited" package ...

The connection is ok, i just need to go to the third floor to get a HSPDA signal or else it will be slower.

Modem traffic lights:

blue- HSPDA (fast)

green- EDGE (slow)

one more thing, just be careful on downloading(e.g. music, movies or files) or streaming in youtube because it will eat a lot of kilobytes. Always check your volume statistics to avoid extra charges.
