You should check out the marble souq - across from Al Rawnaq shop behind the Standard Chartered bank on corniche... plenty of material shops there! For tailors, either on electricity street, behind Bombay Silk Center (also nice for fabrics) - they can recomend tailor, or on Al Nasr street try Ghariya tailors- across road from turkey central
go to "men's" fabric shops for excellent cottons at good prices. The big drawback is that they are men't shops so there's a lot of plains, pinstripes and checks but no flower prints.
