By mr-me

Greetings everyone, this is my first post on QL. Hope you all will be kind enough to extend your helpful views on it.

I plan to buy a LCD TV and Im confused between Samsung and Sony. I would like your views on which brand is better in terms of quality, features and after-sales support extended by Techno Blue and Modern Home respectively for Samsung and Sony?

Thank you

If you love your LCD TV then you might like this piece of news I would want to share.

We are an enterprise that sells an extensive range of fine TV furniture and especially TV cabinets. Just imagine being able to watch TV with a comfortable foot of bed TV lifts which lets you enjoy your flat, LCD or plasma TV from the comfort of your bed.

There's a lot of consumer's guide in the net. You'll find that SAMSUNG is the best deal you could buy, there will be comparison and the good thing is you'll get your money's worth when buying SAMSUNG LCD's. I just bought one 40".

Most of the LCDs & Plasmas today have a contract with SAMSUNG for their screens, even SONY and besides Samsung is No.1 in LCD & Plasma at the moment. Hope this helps.

Just asking or serious

I don't recommend any of that if you are asking for normal LCD. WE all used HD LCD in these days every body from Austalia know the different between Samsung or Sony.

When we are talking about 42" HD LCD in Sydney Samsung is only 850 A$ and Sony is 1400 A$. Decision is totally depend on you.

They sold me a product that's designed to fail but I was a user that's 'designed' to last the product for 5 years minimum and can still maintain it by myself without the need of service centers!

when it comes to tv's Sony has already gained the lead. It might not look sleek and shinny on the outside but its whats inside that counts.

Actually guys, if you compare the models of Samsung and Sony under QR. 2000, you will notice that salient features of Samsung are more than Sony. Price, Contrast ratio, swivel base, 2 or 3 HDMI ports etc. Warranty is one year for both the models so that's not a deciding factor.

Anyways, thank you to all the fellas who chipped in their advice!

So, you said you developed problems when u brought that 32" Samsung for 2699. Is this the same offer with the DVD player free with it? So, what problems, except for picture quality, are you talking about precisely? Please, do guide me as I will be buying the same thing!

It should be clear, however, that if you buy "consumer electronic" you buy a product that is designed to fail and make you unhappy. That's the strategy behind the market. You will always have problems and buy another one and then another one. In the end you will spend as much as you would for one "professional" product.

LCD Brand...

LCDs are differentiated according to their specification & not their brands.

No Brand replaces the TV if it develops problems especially "Dead pixels"/"Black Spots"

The best LCDs have response time below 4micro seconds...

1080pixel LCDs are the best and the latest....you may pick blindly among the brands...the cost too is similar ....take or give a hundred Riyals.

Plasmas are better buried in the desert!!!

Gotta say Samsung. I have a Sony, and a Samsung and well, you know the rest.

I would never buy a Plasma here. If something happens with a Plasma screen here you will pay more than the cost of the TV to fix it. If there is damage to a plasma screen you can kiss your TV goodbye, and for the price, full HD LCD's have great picture and I couldnt really justify the massive price difference because the red on the plasma pops just a little more.

what your were watching when the pic quality was bad? is 8 a cable or movie? bcoz the quality of the pic not just only depend on what kind of lcd u have, it depends also with the input signal like f its cable it wil not give u a great pic due to that the signal u r receiving is facing signal loss...or movie from a dvd is this pirated or original? if your really like to have a better pic get a full hd, blue ray player, and blue ray disc movies..thats for sure men

primarily, purchasing and choosing unit is a hasty procedure to undergo... but if you have what it takes for your very taste then go for it.

SAMSUNG is undeniably has the superb quality displays compare to the rest available in the market... the pictures are sharp and crisp...

whilst SONY still remains number one to me, why? If you want a thing to last a lifetime with you... dont think twice... go for SONY...

further, if only for a matter of superb quality display versus lifetime assurance... ill go for the later.

If you will put the two in a head to head test... SONY LCDs will set its name above SAMSUNG due to the rest of the functionalities and distinct features that only SONY had been proven through time.

now the choice in in your hands... its up for you... it is my taste... just follow your taste...

Samsung they are beautiful to look at and cheaper than Sony. I feel Sony tv's are just over priced for lesser inch screens. In the end its all about how much u want to pay, our say wont make a difference.

you want to view CABLE or DISH then buy PLASMA as in LCD the picture becomes little bit blur or shows small boxes if you got my point.

Otherwise, if you want to play VIDEO GAMES or MOVIES then LCD will be very fine.

I suffered at LULU Hypermarket when a salesman sold me LCD without asking me whether you want to watch CABLE/DISH or MOVIES. So first i had to buy LCD and then discussing the problem with him i again had to buy PLASMA which is awesome. SAMSUNG has very shiny & slick body which i dont think any other brand has it.

Rest is upto u

Yes your right UK, but its only Panel warranty in Philips. From that I think it means that it would cover the front panel only and not the machinery inside. Anyways, my main concern is the after sales. Anybody got that experience with Techno Blue or Modern Home?

Really UK? JBL gives a five year warranty on their loudspeakers. In Qatar it is reduced to one year. How come?

I would recommend Philips LCD, because they are the only ones giving 3 year warranty.
