Art exhibition at Hyatt Plaza
I was taking a stroll through the Hyatt Plaza today when a fancy art shop caught my eye.
There were no walls on it, it was just an open space. Close to 40 paintings hung from two walls erected on either sides of the shop. I’m no authority on paintings. However, I was very impressed with what I saw. From what the person at the counter told me, there are paintings and sculptures made by 20 artists, many among them Qataris.
The exhibition is organised by ‘The Qatari Hosh Arts’ gallery in association with Hyatt Plaza. The ‘Qatari Hosh Arts’ gallery itself is inside Souq Waqeef. I talked to a caricaturist (he’s quite good) who said that the exhibition opened on April 23 and would run until May 7 (or was it June 7?). People will have the opportunity to buy these paintings as well.
There will be live demonstrations by artists at the gallery. These painting sessions are a regular event and each painting would take at least a few days to complete. Each painter has his/her own unique style. He felt that the art scene in Qatar was all set to take off in a big way. While there are not many recognisable painters in the country at the moment, many are waiting on the wings.
Looking at those paintings, sculptures and terracotta pieces on display, I agree with him. There are quite a number of talented ones among them. And the work they do is simply amazing.
These are the list of Qatari artists/sculptures whose works are on display: Hassan Al Mulla, Fatima Al Nuaimi, Mariam Al Moussa, Issa Al Mulla, Ahmad Sultan, Ghanem Al Ghanem, Faisal Al Abdullah and Thamer Al Dossari.
These are the non-Qatari artists on display. Most of them are from the Sudan and Iraq: Hissa Kala, Souad Al Salem, Bashir Al Ansari, Ziad baquori, Islam Kamel, Nour Al Hadi, Moez Ojaimi, Assem Al Mandalawi, Abdulazeem Al Mahjoub, Talal Al Qasimi, Moubarak Al Malek and Ahmad Al Haddad.
If any of you get the time, just go there, at least to appreciate these people’s work. Entry to the place is free of charge. I’m sure that you’ll also appreciate the work they’re all doing. It indeed is brilliant.
Just felt like sharing this on QL. I hope that some of you artsy people do go there and spend some time walking among those brilliant works.
