SCHOOL FEES
Can't believe it! my son's school is asking a 1 term advance payment to reserved a place for a child. regardless he 's a former student or not!I tried to talk to the accountant, he don't have any say also. I don't know what is happening to the Cambridge anymore. I was told by the adviser that my son don't have an ICT class for the 2nd and 3rd term because they don't have a teacher. I'm so frustrated with all of this!!!
in for homeschooling! The company's shipping our supplies, and I'm ready to go! I have no intention of paying such atrocious fees unless it is because I choose to go back to work. I am certainly not paying good money for schools worse than the average ones we have in the States - I won't allow my son to attend those now! Vanhorstern, I think you are wise. And shegoo, I'm just starting out, but I've got a large support group in the States and would be happy to talkt with you if you'd like - feel free to PM me.
Hey guys.I have read all of your views.Iam currently studying in Bright Future Pakistani School and I want to change my school. My first choice is The Cambridge School. My second choice is Al Jazeera Academy. Will someone please advise me what to do and where to go?
Plz. Thanks

Paying in advance for cambridge!
Its the worst of all schools i have seen in Doha.
Popcorn Girl you have totally the wrong attitude. As a teacher in a Western school I know that when parents protest enough or stand together or even just make a fuss the school change their mind. If this is something you feel strongly about I would make a stand. You may not win, but then you might. Schools do not like bad publicity, & highlighting the problem of no IT teacher is something you should certainly protest about.
but the question still remains, why isnt the ministry of education doing anything? Dubai is doing something why not qatar?????
after your contract with whom ever ends in march..pls see a doc.
Shegoo,
Be glad to and for me its not homeschool because I don't do the teaching. (I have a teacher from Spain teaching Spanish an English teacher from Wales...) Will send PM in just one second....
spain does, Bulgaria does, Germany does (no homeschool allowed there....UK US Australia....
let me ask: What other country is like Qatar as far as big business schooling and offers little alternative? (Not Middle Eastern....) just curious do you know?
Blast I lost my add on! For example in Spain and Bulgaria the child can step into public (he doesn't HAVE to step into private because there is no other alternative.) The student will have to learn another language and go back a couple grades until he catches up, but the doors are open wide for the opportunity. (No charge but for materials.) Does Qatar provide this opportunity?
vanhorstern, that was really my first choice to homeschool my son. I should have push it. My husband is hesitant about it, that's why we landed in Cambridge. Can you please provide me some info about it? thanks in advance.
I also think you should keep in mind that we are not talking university but primary and secondary level. If we are speaking about world you will find that education doesn't cost even to foreigners in many parts of the world. The concern is language not currency. (They do have to work with the system they live within) I also see comments being made by youth attending school. As far as contributing to this thread: are you paying for your own schooling? Or do you have children and are paying for their education? If not then....?
No you may not. I have my kids in one the most expensives schools here.
Not because I thought it was the best, it was the only one that had places at the time.
So we pay a load of fucking money, our savings to be honest, to get our kids educated.
My husband is here for a year, my contract ends in March and then we go.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
I finally said enough and we took our daughter out of school. She now attends a British online school and as for her social life we set up art courses or other activities plus she made friends from her previous school so she spends time with them.
We didn't come here to go under in school fees. What is awesome is school time is school time and social time is social. She had a bit of trouble setting priorities with her educational future getting lost in BS with the social. That is gone now and I am more hopeful. Thank goodness for alternatives eh?
may i ask how many kids u hve?
Some of you come to make money, a lot of us come to make ends meet. Alien concept to you as you think all Westerners are rich. Well, here's a thing we are not.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
Go check out Compass School and then tell me I am making this up.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
demanding the first term fees upfront is extortion!!!the ministry of education must act against it just like the ministry of education in Dubai who have instructed parents not to pay the fees in advance!
i'm one of pcg's children, and i'm very well edumacated thank you.
Strange-
Austrlain expat comes to live in Qatar.
Normally people come to Qatar to make money, yet you claim you have borrowed money to be able to live in Qatar. huh?
Yea I'm kind of allergic to bullshit too.
I go to a british school. DC's fees is around 38,000 QR per month.
For you to pay 300,000QR you must have around 8-9 kids?
the upper class does not understnad the problems of lowr class. and lowerclass does not understnad the problems of uppr class.
Then popcorngirl has five (!) kids and they go to ASD at 62.000 QR each. Her house for 7 people costs another 350.000 per year and for food and clothes for 7 people another 100.000 per year. So, 1 million QR salary per year is what she should have. Congrats.
Again you are assuming that. We borrowed some from my parents.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
Popcorngirl. I don't need like you right now when Im expressing how frustrated I am and you are bragging your ability to pay upfront.
And you love are assuming we can afford it.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
members in this group.
at least 50% of the members , do not earn this amount ANNUALY as their salary. !!!
I am not blaming pcgirl...neither insinuating.
I just point out how they disregard each others problems.
the upper class does not understnad the problems of lowr class. and lowerclass treat upper class problems "its none of our business"
My kids go to a mainstream British school over here. We don't get our fees paid.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
300,000qr
What school do they go to?
or do they go to uni?
We have just paid a year up front. Yes, we did get a discount, but it means our kids are guaranteed a year there.
OH, husband has just reminded me, we also pay a term up front. Schools over here are a business.
If you want your kids educated over here that's the deal.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
it's regardless of the amount but the idea of the parents to pay for the 1 whole term for reservation. they have asked for a deposit fee already.
good for you to have that much money for your kids school fees!
Deal with the increases. I/we pay over QR 300,000 for our kids fees and that does not include, after school stuff.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
this is our 3rd year in Cambridge school but this is the first time they cornered the parents like this!
popcorngirl, I'm trying to deal with it, believe me!
it is happening in all schools. Just deal with it.
I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
