Qatar Airways Prices

i see the prices for qatar airways are stupidly high again, and almost 40% more than emirates.

when will they come down again before the summer, or will they continue to rise?

obvioulsy qatar airways now think they can charge stupid prices as they are the best 5* airline in economy....

Fubar - Dude , am trying to give you the info from whatver I know which i learned from 16 years of my experience in this industry. I am neither associated with QA nor EK.

Whether am rich or poor , no way its gona help you. I dont need to pay anything to fly lol

When I explained on the tax matters above & The difference in QA ( QR) and EK. I was mentioning about the TAXES and not FARES. The TAX element will be the same for any airline, its fixed for your info.

Why it vaires is the question- Thats what explained above, the Q tax emirates adds to their fare and Qatar adds to their tax. Taxes plus Q tax will be equal for any airline. Basic Fare varies , thts where QR costs you more.

cheers

"end of teh day you pay the same."

That's hilarious dude.

Totally random example:

Doha - New York - Doha on June 23, returning June 30.

Emirates: QAR4550 inclusive of all taxes, surchages etc.

Qatar Airways: QAR5810 inclusive.

Even if you change the dates, the cheapest quoted fare for QA is QAR5230 for slightly different dates.

If you're so rich that paying an extra QAR1260 is 'the same' then good for you, but for the rest of us, it's a saving worth making.

Unless of course you are tring to say that the taxes are 'the same'.

Possibly, although QA says the ticket to New York consists of QAR1080 in taxes, whereas the Emirates ticket says that it contains QAR260 in taxes. Still very much not 'the same', unless QA is just trying to hide discretionary surchages in there to boost their bottom line.

End of the day - Emirates is far cheaper.

Doty - yes its true. The reason is , the Q tax ( fuel tax) is been added to the fare by Emirates. Where as Qatar airways adds this to their taxes. end of teh day you pay the same.

The Birdie - Theoritically its on ''Telescopic milleage principle''. Practically - its just another cuthroat competition between the airlines which decides.

There is a IATA ( International Air Transports Association) published fare for each and every points operated. You will be shocked if you loook at them. All these fares we see now are Market Fares ( under cut fares much lower than the IATA actual fares).

The market fares are effected by several factors, competition, demand and supply..etc etc

I am told by a friend, I am not sure

There are time Airlines charging ( any Airline QR, EK ..)

3000 to London and 2700 to Kochi ( India ) which is

4 hours flight. ( On a same day )

This is a doubt --- how the airline tickets are priced ? Is it not on the distance in Km ? or any other criteria ?

By fubar• 20 May 2009 12:10
fubar

Here's what confuses me.

For travel Doha-London return on Qatar Airways, the ticket costs 3000QAR. For London to Doha return, on the same dates, the ticket is only 2130QAR.

For travel from Dubai-London return on Qatar Airways, same dates as above, the ticket is 2650QAR. For London-Dubai return, same dates, the ticket is 1372QAR.

Why does it cost more than double to fly Doha-London-Doha than it does to fly London-Dubai-London, on the same airline, on the same days??

gtadv - You are mistaken, All airlines , globally follow the RBD ( revenue based designator) system. Which splits the seats in each Y/J/F cabin to different fare( price) levels. The earlier you book you get the cheapest. Thus ,Those who plan and book early will benefit.

To explain - Economy will be having differnt price levels, first 20 seats on 200QR, the next 30 on 300QR, the next 30 on 400QR...etc. When you are the 21st passenger booking you will be priced on 300. All these seats are in the same cabin though. This system manages the Airlines revenue according to the demand automatically.

Whether you choose QR or EK or WY- they all use the same.

Tallg is right- Direct flights will cost you more. For example at Dubai , EK will cost you more than QR and other indirect carriers. QR price from Dubai via Doha to London will be cheaper than their Doha London Fare!!! thats how airlines work.

Yes, that's why this thread was started - because QR prices have suddenly shot up. Up until a week ago they were as low as I'd ever seen them for flights up til the end of this year, and lower than any of the other airlines.

That's what happens with all airlines, they vary their prices as the demand for seats changes. The skill is getting them when they're cheap!

But of course, if you're happy with a stopover and that's the cheaper option, then that's what you should do. And of course a bit of duty free shopping always helps to pass the time!

you do save money... and QR 3'790 is ok with me..

yesterday my husband bought ticket for QR3'790 but its cheaper if you buy it from UK.almost half the price.

TALLG it is true but it does not bother me cos one stopover and good duty free shopping that's all I ask.I'm sure it must be bother my husband.but I save on tickets don't I?

leelah - QR are usually more expensive than other airlines to the UK because it's a direct flight. Until recently the price to UK was under 400 pounds (but they recently went up again, which is what this thread is about - but all airlines do that).

Also, QR and Emirates 'typical' seat pitch is the same.

For me, paying a bit extra for a direct flight is worth it, and if QR happen to be cheaper, which they sometimes are, then that's even better. Service on QR has always been satisfactory - i.e. they bring me food and drink when I want it. That's all I ask.

if you consider the weightage = price / comfort ratio, Emirates may be better than QA.

For India-bound travellers, did you try Jet Airways ? It is too economical, at the same time no need to compromise much on comforts

3,350 QR for my ticket to QA (2 way) on the last quarter of the year. knowing its the peak season of the year, its cheaper.

Maybe my experience 3 flights 3 extremely poorly handled check ins and poor follow up to written complaints is unique - but they won't be getting anymore of my money - Emirates aircraft are slightly (emphasis on slight) more comfortable, their inflight entertainment units are easier to use and they provide excellent ground service (if your connecting flight is more than 4 hours - they feed you, if your connecting flight is more than 9 hours - they give you a hotel room). The one time I complained, they followed up promptly and provided an acceptable compromise resolution to the one I sought

Qatar Airways cannot compete in any of these areas

RECENTLY I TRAVELLED TO CHENNAI AND IN DOHA I PAID 380 RIYALS TO UPGRADE MY WIFE'S TICKET TO NEXT CLASS AS THEY SAID THE LOWER CLASS SEAT IS NOT AVAILABLE (THE FLIGHT WAS ONLY HALF FILLED) AND WHILE COMING BACK I PAID IRS.6000 FOR MY TICKET TO UPGRADE (AS MY TICKET WAS LOWER CLASS).

BUT I TRAVELLED WITH EMIRATES,SRILANKAN, OMAN AIR MORE THAN 1O TIMES IN THIS 13 YEARS, I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEM.

NO MORE TRAVELLEING WITH QA.

What amuses me is often their sale/special prices are still substantially higher than the everyday prices being offered by Emirates.

Qatar Airways must have to "buy" their awards for service - it certainly isn't based on the real world from anyone I've talked to (or on my own experience).

cheap airline cheap staff and third class service the cabin crew looks like sweeper crew and their service is rubbish compared to emirates so why are they increasing their prices ??????? everyone knows that the money they get to run their airline comes from oil and gas.

yep. and flights inbound in terms of the carrier base are usually cheaper than flights outbound.

for instance, if you are traveling from Dubai to Doha, Emirates Flight will be more expensive than Qatar Airways.

Bear in mind that direct flights will usually be more than non-direct ones. That's why some QR flights are more costly (e.g. QR UK->Doha->UK is normally more expensive than BA UK->Doha-UK, with BA stopping in Bahrain for an hour).

I used to praise a lot to my colleagues and friends abotu Qatar AIrways flights and claiming to be much better than any other flights in the World.

But no more.

Not that QA stopped its quality service, but if you draw a price-quality graph on various airlines, it is not so great. What is the big deal to have better quality, to give 40% more !!!!!!.... They shuld give the quality as an after-sales product for the same price , ( or for a slight higher price )

A couple of weeks ago they were low for flights til the end of the year, but now they've suddenly jumped up again. Very annoying.

But it's not just QR that do this, all airlines do. Don't make it personal.
