Help us help you THRIVE in Qatar!

Hi All,

Calling all expats for some help, feedback, ideas, suggestions and support!

Myself and my friend are both professional trainers living and working in Qatar. We are planning to put together some training workshops for expats which focus on Cultural Competencies which help you not only ‘get by’ in another culture but Thrive, Flourish and dare I say it, enjoy the experience!

We plan to look at the ‘whys’ behind we become frustrated about a wide range of things (ie) the driving, the customer service standards, getting things done(etc)and give skills and techniques to handle these situations.

So, we would really appreciate from you guys feedback, ideas and suggestions about the following:

*What would YOU like to be covered in a workshop(s)?
*What are your biggest challenges? (ie) supporting your kids? Work related issues? Driving?! Understanding how not to offend the locals (etc)
*What timings would suit you best? (thinking 09.00 – 12.00)
*What would you feel is a fair cost to pay for each workshop?

Thank you in advance for your help, we appreciate it,

Clare & David

Hi,

Thank youf or all of your comments. Looks like you've all picked up on the driving thing! I wish we did have a miracle cure. Lol!!

Ok, so I need to make it clearer. The workshops focus on cultural competencies, so by that I mean core skills and understanding needed to do well in a culture different to your own.

One areas could be around supporting your kids. Your kids are from one culture but growing up in a different culture. So skills and ways to support your kids through culture shock, through issues at school, through friendships (etc)

Another could be help in managing your maid. She is from a different culture to you so there may be issues with communication, ideas on childcare (etc). So how do you handle it to ensure that you have a good relationship and she does what you want.

Those are just a couple of examples, I hope they have helped clarify what we are planning to do.

Thanks

So if we attend the workshops, we'll learn to "enjoy the experience" of driving in Qatar?

Seems you don't have a concrete plan in mind, that's why you're asking for inputs.

I know why I get frustrated and what pees me off. I think most of us do. I don't think a workshop will help though.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!
