Non-payment of debt

I loaned someone QR500 last November (supposedly for a family emergency) and until now he hasn't paid me. It might not be too much for the most of you here but for a simple wage earner like me, it can go a long way. Our agreement was that he'd pay me back 15 days later but until now, I haven't received even a cent. My family needs money and I don't have anything to give them. Now he doesn't answer my text messages and emails. I feel even more disrespected since common friends tell me that the person who owes me money regularly goes out with them (spending what should have been my money?!) I'm at the end of my rope and now contemplating on filing a police complaint for non-payment of debt. Is this possible? Or, what legal way can I consider to get my money back? I need advice. Thank you.

yeah, i suggest if you could talk with his commpany/manager or even HR and explain your part and ask for his help, i bet if he will still have the guts to refuse to pay you...

the thing is, this person lent QR 500 to a so called friend.

They have had 7 months to pay it back.

at least it's a good lesson learnt. we don't give money to someone, friends OK but someone NO.

Linda, get your sponsor or maybe manager (preferably arabic) to scare the hell out of him. if not effective, try what the others suggested. go to his place of work and ask for the money. let someone accompany you (preferably your arabic manager)..

kadaut...

nah, not necessary to be violent.. it's enough for two strong guys just to show up, he will do the rest by himself...

I would let him know though and give him fair warning; just so it does not turn into violence for violence sake.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

get couple of strong guys with you (like FLAN for example...he he he), go to his office somewhere at the beginning of next month, when he for sure got his salary, let guys push him into the car, bring him to the ATM machine and make him withdraw your 500 right in front of you, then let the guys kick his a$$, and leave him on the street...

You need to be confrontational, just go to him in person, and tell him to give you back your money, in a loud voice. Don't say it's QR500.

The police won't help you if you don't have papers.

I say confront the person, talk to him, better in company of another person who can hear what he'd say. Pressure would be good. I honestly believe he has no more intention of paying you back so make that your driving force and unleash!! Good luck!

You don't need to be aggressive, just go to his place of work (around pay day) and ask him very LOUDLY for the amount you loaned him 7 months ago.

Failing that, Flan has the cricket bat and I have a fast car.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

yes, 17thou...

17thou or 500, it's all the same.... the debt is not paid...

well, whatever advise is shared LINDA, at the end of the day, it is you who will decide...

hhmmm consider flan's option then....or get hold of his cellphone, see how "that" will affect him.. LOL

Flan, that made me laugh...thanks I needed it. How I wish I could do that.

Popcorn, I am not a violent nor a confrontational person. During the instances that we saw each other during gatherings, I would even take him to the side to talk to him bec I didn't want others to think badly of him. But now, I may reconsider.

Bubbly, QR17k? How I also wish I could have that kind of money. I only earn QR1,500 per month so just imagine how much QR500 is worth to me. Your friend's case is quite disheartening. So does this mean I should just accept my fate and let go of the money he owes me? Because at this point, I don't feel he even thinks of paying me back anymore...without any outside pressure.

you could always try a leg before wicket or a googly;-0

pcg, i've got the cricket bat that will do the job sweetly.

my cover drive needs a bit of practice anyway.

knee capping; now we are talking! If you know where he/she works, go into his/her place of work and ask him for the money. You may embarrass them into paying you back.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

i sympathize with you...

legal way??? my friend loaned someone seventeen thou (17,000 qrs).., she works with that person too...and she went to the police after going thru hell....but the police doesn't just "pick" someone up with regards to (personal)debts... esp so that there are no "legal papers" to back you up... up until now, the 17,000qrs is not yet paid....not even half....

so, with this, i don't know if you'd still consider going to the police....

there's not a sensible advise in there, but then....
