DOHA: In an unexpected move, the Supreme Education Council has issued a directive to Independent schools to cancel the registration of all expatriate students in certain grades, reports Al Sharq.
The move apparently is aimed at providing more seats to Qatari students. There had been complaints about shortage of seats in Independent schools with a number of students remaining in the wait list every year.
The directive applies to students who have been promoted from a lower level to an upper level in the academic ladder.
This is in reference to the Qatari independent schools ie government schools. There are Qataris on the waiting lists for some of these schools and the government wants to give priority for it's own schools to local children over expatriates.
This does not refer to expatriate schools.
