Respect: Earned not Born

Xena
By Xena

I had a run in with a Sheikh on our farm yesterday - a 24 year old that didn't like the fact that a 'strong western woman' closed a door on him (a door that he had no authority to enter, I might add). Next thing I know, he calls the police to take me to the police station so he can lay a charge against me. To this minute I still don't have any idea what the charge would have been.

During all this commotion he told me I had no respect for him - now I am sorry, but when my mom raised me, she taught me that people earn your respect - its not a given, no matter who you are - because he is a sheikh, he thinks he can be rude and do whatever he likes on a property that DOESN'T belong to him.

For me, I believe he had absolutely no respect for my authority on my property - so do tell me why I should have had any respect for him when after I asked him to please use another entrance - and explained why, - he ignored me and proceeded to enter through the door I had asked him not to - so I closed it before he could go through - and all hell broke loose.

Just because he is a Sheikh does that mean I should bow and pander to someone who clearly has no idea what it means to hold a title like that? For me, a Sheikh is someone to hold up in high esteem - someone that knows he is a figure head, so he will behave in a gentlemanly manner - Other Sheikhs I have met, have deserved their titles... this one, clearly does not.

two of my closest friends are Qatari, I know dozens of other Qataris and none of them have ever acted like this. This was one insolent individual, that thinks because he holds a title, he warrents respect.... Again I say.... Respect is earned, not born.

qataris generally seem to have a problem ... be it sheikhs or non sheikhs ... frm cutting the Q of a line to the famous 'land cruiser' incidents .. and like the recent qatari shouting onboard QR .. i think they live in a different planet removed from civilization and when civilization hits them here ... its something bizarre beyond their comprehension, that they are not kings of the world but just ppl from a land called Qatar ...

this particular man has no interest in QAWS, he infact he buys and sells dogs of his own causing us more problems when he cannot handle the number of dogs he has - he was there to nose around and cause trouble - which he clearly achieved...

That Sheikh was the person I was referring to as your "employer", I just wasn't sure if it was acceptable to mention QAWS or any other personal info about you online, just being cautious.

I'm glad you're covered, and wish no one would have to go through an awful experience like this one.

Try to relax a bit, and have something to eat, don’t forget to take care of yourself.

I have a fully bi-lingual friend, as well as a qatari human rights lawyer on call to accompany me - I do not wish to get my employer involved in this as it has nothing to do with my work, and will only follow that road if it becomes neccessary - this happened in my capacity as a committe member of QAWS and not my official work capacity - the Sheikh that owns our farm is the one we will approach to help if it should come to that - however, right now, I am hoping the young man in question has had time to re-think his behaviour and realised he was being totally irrational - I just wish he hadn't been so hasty in contacting legal authorities over something so trivial that could have been sorted out between us.

I was going to PM you, that at the police station, they'll play on not understanding your language and may force you to sign something. So, don't fall for that, obviously you already aware of that stunt, and don't go alone.

I'm sure it'll be sorted out through your employer, still it's such a shocking and unpleasant experience!.

Sorry!

disregarded my words about opening the door, I was civil and polite with him - even when he opened the door and I closed it again I said nothing - only when he became demanding as to why I did that - then I lost my cool - but as usual - he could speak English when insulting me, but when I was trying to explain why I didn't want him coming through there - his comprehension of the English language become non-existant and he didn't get what I was trying to tell him.... Gotta love it...

that I am within my rights here. This guy has no authority in this situation - he is on our property that is owned by another sheikh and should we choose to get him involved - he would most propably be very uspet that someone from his 'elite' would act like this as our sheikh is a true gentleman.

I am just so angry at the fact that this person thought that I would be terrified at the thought of him calling the police over such a trivial matter - anyone that knows me, knows I wouldn't backdown when I feel I am in the right and two have the audacity to question my authority on our "property".

I believe this person has issues with females in authority, as he has already had one lady discharged from her position at a firm she was working - tried to get another lady deported over another issue, and now is trying to frighten me with a trip to the police station over something he was in the wrong about.... it might be interesting to mention that we are all western ladies - with strong personalities - he had the audacity to accuse me of having a problem with his nationality and the fact that he wears a thobe... have you ever...

The police officers will try to reconcile, unless the man is hardheaded and so full of himself and insisted to take counter measure.

Just remember that police officers are, in this case, just as helpless as the rest of us here.

Royal as they are, i stil believe they are suppose to behave well than us ordinary earthlings. They should be able to live by their rules and so they could lead well.

Indeed royalty is a privilege but a privilege that commands not only higher authority and so is responsibility.

Well done Xen! At times, blue bloods should met someone like you!

I find this hilarious (not the fact that you went through this ordeal xena, just the premise of the incident).

You slapped his hand for doing something he was asked not to do so he called the police. I cant imagine what grounds the police even came to there. Can you imagine how that phone call went?

"this english woman wont let me enter a door marked private, and asked me not to go in and I tried to and she shut the door!!"

Would the police think this is something that warrants a trip out?_____________________________________________________

when I saw the police arriving, I chuckled, as I couldn't believe that he actually interrupted an officer who I am sure has much more important things to do than come out and sort out a temper tantrum.

They told me to go with them to the police station, but I refused telling them my duty only finished at 7pm - then I turned and walked back to the kennels. Next thing I get called out and little sheikh is gone and the police is giving me back my ID card telling me that if they phone me I must please go do the police station...

Hoping it might have something to do with the fact that I told him he needs to act like a man and not get others to sort out his problems for him - maybe he felt embarressed that I had called him out on that - I don't know - but what I do know is, this is private property, and our rules and regulations regarding entering and exiting certain areas are for health and safety reaons for the animals and humans - clearly though he didn't think it meant him.

I think you may already know the answer to this one ;)

Generally people measure their self importance by things like this. Probably means he isnt as important as he thinks he is.

Did anything happen with the police? If you are on your propert and he is a guest he is indeed way out of line. It would have been interesting how the police handled this.... would thay have charged you with hurting his pride lol.
