I'm looking for somewhere to go to for a relaxing beach holiday and have been looking at Qatar, would it fit the bill?

The French Riviera is the best. Rent a car...drive to different beaches every day. It's amazing. Flying into Nice or Marseille will get you there.

It's too hot now but around Easter it's perfect, especially if you pick a nice hotel with a good beach. I prefer staying in Doha to Dubai for short breaks except for the disgraceful taxi system here. Why would a tourist want to wait 15 days and 6 hours for a taxi?

There is plenty to do and most of it is free. The exchange rate is not on your side at the moment though, last summer it was 7.8QR to the £, now 5.8QR. Still, eating out is relatively cheap and you will feel genuinely safe going out and about, very little crime means that you can really explore.

Arien. Just checked the Qatar Airways Holiday brochure.. Funny they don't offer any holidays in Qatar? hmmm

Mjamille, arien meant why gazmo's considering qatar for a beach holiday..not to reside in.

Arien, i don't think he's crazy.

Why would you suggest places such as Goa and Bangkok? Odd. Very odd. Mind you, he's thinking about a relaxing beach holiday.

Weird choice for a beach holiday...Vietnam and Cambodia? Seriously? By the way, Thai and Bali are overrated.

The choices I gave earlier I recommend because it's either I've been to those places or my friends have..and they're the really good ones.

I'll certainly look at St John as it was one of the places I was thinking of and you mentioned it too.

If you're looking for that paradise vibe, well you got.. French Polynesia like BoraBora island, Palau; St John in Virgin Islands, or anywhere in the Carribean Islands; Seychelles island, El Nido in Philippines.

Done Australia, NZ and a few islands down there, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, just fancied trying somewhere different and interesting I guess... :-)

Yes, Qatar during winter..ride the dunes and then camp at night. But why have you been looking at Qatar insearch of a beach holiday? How many days do you have and how big is the budget? Why not fly across the continent?

By Gazmo• 31 May 2009 06:21

Yeah, 40 is about my limit, maybe visit Qatar in the winter and enjoy the crisp frosty nights. :-)

a relaxing beach holiday is just not the in thing to do this summer, that is, if you are here in Doha... you won't even last one minute under the scorching rays of the sun... 50+ degrees, ouuch you'll be a burnt toast... :P

What an interesting choice for a beach holiday. People would usually go to the islands and then some..

Oh wait, unless you're already in the gulf and you don't want to go across the continent for a glimps of the seashore...

This was not very helpful-- sorry.

Good luck with your query!
