Grrrrrr!
By baldrick2dogs •
Grrrrr! I had cause to call the police last night. The building outside my bedroom window is being demolished. Unfortunately they were doing so at 11:30pm. The police however said to call back after 12:00 if they were still doing it!!!
To make matters worse, they started again at 04:30 this morning!!!!
Right, that's off my chest now :o(
Someone,
Sorry I thought you were, so maybe the police did the same mistake (heheeheh).
The good thing is, unlike my case, they solved you problem!
As for looking for that quite place, it sure may sound quite today but we never know what may happen in the neighborhood tomorrow. The problem with Qatar is lack of clear regulations and their enforcement. Here, we never know.... its the inshallah approach!
Lusitano
Best thing is to try and find a place that is relatively far away from noise.
BTW im not a Qatari citizen!
...
Starfaith - even worse! Last night I got in at 21:45 and the were hard at it ...... until prayer call at around 03:30!!! I got around 1.5 hours sleep, total. GGGRRRRRRRR
You'll get used to it and then you'll sleep like a baby.. just takes a few days for the routine to set in. My place is very noisy with construction work next door. A few pina coladas help to give me a double whammy and zzzzzz...

Don't want no drama,
No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama
baldrick, how's the demolition going tonight??? ;)
Baldrick where as I fully understand your problem, and in UK there would be no problem enforcing acceptable noise levels.
But here every thing is driven by the Government Projects and tight deadlines have to be met. Your construction site operates a 24 hours shift? The only difference is that your site is away from the community and this site is right infront of your block.
Have a glass of whisky and use some ear plugs mate..lol

HE WHO DARES WINS
Whilst we're on the subject , where would one be able to buy earplugs over here?
It's OK for these people that don't live near construction sites to say 'at least they are working when it's cool' or we are the reason for the construction. They don't have to live with it. Been here 9 months and it's been continuous jackhammers, filling trucks all night, generators running all the time, and cement trucks at all hours.
I have to work too
till the demolish work is done and construction of a new building is completed. Then the rents will go down

is not for working at night time
for what reason they should stop the work...! yet if they have gotten permission's my municipality and even from police too...
Someone,
Sure the police maybe listen to Qatari citizens!
Personally, I gave up on them. I moved out from the noise!
guys, we are all in Qatar for the reason on booming construction in the first place. Ok, let us stop them constructing their sites, let us make schedules, restrictions, etc. for them, half of us will be out of Qatar right away... (pls, don’t pick on my words: ALL doesn’t mean 100%. HALF doesn’t mean 50%.. )
Bald, just use these Night Ear Plugs, and sleep well, buddy!

The police do NOT LISTEN they only HEAR YOU.
wait till you hear those of who do not do QL... lots of them really..we are only too used in our countries where cases like these when brought to the police are immediately done away with---then again this is not our country...learn to live with it pals.
They don't even notice what is quiet from banging noise! let alone baldricks water ballons from used or unused condoms.
Not only that they even leave you worried sick all night about your car parked somewhere else, your parking slot still with a huge hole for drainage repairs and the like.
Lusitano. The police actually do listen. I was living in Al-Sadd area few months back and a similar thing happened to me. First time i called they told me to wait for some time if they dont stop i should call again. Next day same thing they didnt stop of course so i called the Sadd police station and told them that the work didnt stop. They asked for my name and mob number and requested that I wait for them near my house. 10 mins later i received a call from a policeman and saw a police patrol coming towards me. They actually stopped 2 construction sites at the same time. One in front of the building and one beside it! I was just watching from a distance after they asked me about the source of noise.
They were very supportive and understanding and told me they will not work for as long as they dont have a permit, once they obtain one they can start again and at that time it's hard to stop them.
nails on the street
Racing is illegal, seems construction (destruction) is not :o(
But what about the night races between the "muscle" cars? It happens that a big, new, nice empty road is passing near my house and is like living in Lusail Race Track! And, by default, it is only Thursday to Friday night and Friday to Saturday night...
for you, but it seem is a common environmental attitude here... the whole Doha is a construction site.
laurana,
I believe that you were able to solve the problem, but I would have difficulties in believing that the police actually took any effective action!
As for the unpleasant competition of screams at early hours in the morning, i've got numb to it ;)
I had this for six weeks with the big earth breaking machine -5.30am to midnight the whole flat vibrated and caused structual damage....
its well beyond ear plug scenario
it was horrendous - and is a quick path to insanity
similar problems couple of weeks ago. They started hammering at 1am. I went out and asked the workers to stop and to call their foreman. I was seconded by the security guy of my building. I just show him the telephone and informed that I will call the police if continue... After ten minutes they stopped and since then it never happened. Maybe I was lucky...
I am still by 5am noise, but it is covered by the mosque nearby.. :)
laurana,
In my case, I’ve done that. A petition was signed by the neighbors and handed in to the police... it never worked... maybe as you say, depends on who owns the building!
requesting that all construction works in residential areas to be stopped between I think 9pm till 6am (not exactly sure about timing). Only with special authorisation they are allowed to work until 12... You can just ask couple of your neighbours or the security guys to testify the fact and you can fill a complain. The police will come and fine them. It works, depending whose building is that.....
tallg,
its the culture my friend, its about not loosing face, not showing the weakness, always showing the perfect facade ;)
baldrick2dogs,
lol, they probably appreciated the refreshment!
I don't know why the police don't just say "There's no law to prevent them from working at night", rather than pretending to file a report.
Lusitano, you are perfectly correct. That's why, at 12:30, I resorted to water balloons thrown from my balcony. Well, actually, water condoms but I doubt they noticed the difference!
baldrick2dogs,
Police will never do anything about it.
I had a similar situation, went to the police station several times. They tell me to call when it happens again. Sure enough it happens, you call and either they can't speak or/and understand English or they tell you to call later if it happens again...
Then it happens again and you call and nothing happens.
Then you go back to the police station with photos, they get impressed with the photos or the printing quality, file a report (or so it looks like) and they say that they will follow up the case. It never happens till the works are finally over or you get used to the noise or you move out.
Remember that we are not in a mature nation and much less is the law here or its enforcement, aka the authorities!
Put on the ear plugs, they use in the Power Plants..!! lolzz

Very inconvenient, yes, but if it means they are working in lower temperatures, better for them.
Extra strength earplugs???
-------------------------------------
Iam sorry Baldrick,,but if the construction company has the permission to do so, there wouldnt be a chance to avoid it !
Anyways, why dont you GO to nearby police station & complain the same...atleast let them checkout... i guess, more people should involve in your locality, will help alot.

If there isn't there frickin should be!
4 hours sleep makes for a crappy morning!
When I lived in West Bay they worked all night on the construction sites, including the incredibly noisy ground-breaking machines. I don't think there's a law to stop them from doing so.
really bad tsk! hope by tonight all is quite.
rizks why wonder about the police response? hehehehe
'SO DARK THE CON OF MAN'
ohh tatz BAD...:(
but call after 12 ?? dont they bloody know after 12 ghost wakes up and humans sleep.....:(
