I have been offered a job at QP at RASLAF.

offered housing allowance is 5500QR/month and 60qr/day for transport to the pick up point. I shall be on forced bachelor status so no family over heads.

1. can I find decent room or 1BR flat for about 3500qr within 60qr distance from RAS LAFFAN ?

2. what is the general geography and weather in RAS LAFFAn like distance to a shopping mall -medical centre -phamacy - restaurant etc ?

first of all....if ur looking for decent room to b rent.....im thinking u have no trouuble to b neighbour with all labours. cos i think u will not find flat alone for 3500riyal..... unless u share.......

and about the transport thing.......i dont think 60riyals is sufficient.....unless u hv car tht are very efficient in fuel. since the distance from doha to alkhor self is 35km + 30mins driving to ras laffan (i duno the exact distance for tht as i only came 3 times around this area)

second, about the malls........not yet ready but they still build one....if u want to check it....its near roundabout of Qatar leadership Academic........they still sticking up the bars for the foundation of the building.......they call it ALKHOR MALL

as for medical centre....i guess they have one in ras laffan....and also alkhor health center and alkhor hospital is available there.......

and as for pharmacy is available alot in alkhor......

for restaurant, again i would suggest u to come to alkhor...all this thing u can get in alkhor as in ras laffan u will not have alot of choice. but i just heard from some ppl who lives theere , tht they have not alot of option. most of the time they came to alkhor to get all things they need.

so i guess in my opinion, get a room in alkhor to rent and get a car. cos most of ppl who live in ras laffan are not happy stay there.

and about the weather.........if it summer, will b bit hotter than other area cos face it .....the one we talk is the plant site.......and when it comes to winter time, the same thing will happend.

Dude.. im working at Ras Laffan and go home to Doha for more than a year now.. you can never go to ras laffan with a QAR 60 transport allowance.. youll gonna need to ask your company's pick-up point and travel at least 1.5 hour (w/o traffic) on your company bus. Plus, Ras Laffan is a controlled area. all drivers and passengers that will come should have a valid gate pass, so no TAXI's and carlift.. advice.. better get yourself an iPod or something, youll gonna need it with the long travel.

The Weather... hot and often windy and frequemt sand storms.. (you can even have a good smell og LNG sometimes)

Surroundings... desert, oil plants, and sea water. Nearest fast food chain is from Al-Khor (20 to 30 minutes away driving at speed limit). But with QP i think youll have good buffets at your office mess hall..(same as other O&G companies)

Ras Laffan is an Industrial City. It doesn't have malls and restuarants etc. The nearest place that does is Al Khor, followed by Doha.

I expect that the 'pick-up point' is probably in Doha. i.e. you get a taxi from your house to the pick up point, and then a QP bus takes you on the 1-1.5 hour journey to Ras Laffan.

You should probably query this with them. 60QR will definitely not get you from Doha to Ras Laffan.
