Planning to move to Qatar; anyone that have openings for site managers/engineers preferable in M&E projects?
Have been working overseas before(power, chemical, etc.), but not in the ME.
I´ve tried to apply to some ads but no feedback/response yet.

I think the inactivity among recruitment companies should give you a good indication about how many open positions there are here.

The only 3 ways I know of that will get you a job by already being here are:

1. You personally know someone who has a job opening.

2. You have a special skill that is highly sought after and nobody else in the country can do it.

3. You are a cheap labourer with a free transfer.

Looking for open positions is a better definition to what I´m doing.

I´m not going over there without having a contract....

Thanks anyway for your input on the situation in Q.

Perhaps what he needs to understand is that almost every employee of every company was hired from overseas.

Recruiting people from overseas is what companies here are used to, it's what they do every day.

Trying to come here in person will be something that they don't understand and can't cope with. It's just not what they are used to.

But he sounds like he's convinced so good luck to him.

baldrick2dogs - Yes I agree. even we employ them to suit with certain circuntances. Another fact is westerners are managed by Asians / Lebanese in some of the companies I know. Their salaries are more than westerners and they were picked purely on merits.

LL, I beg to differ. I'm a site engineer and I'm expensive. Some companies just feel better having a western face in a high profile position.

Jabon, I do agree though that to come here on spec as a European is going to cost you an arma nd lleg while not receiving any income. Keep trying from home.

that when recruiters has halted to notify you regarding your offer that means they might have other candidates, i can say this as i am working on the HR side. (sorry but this is reality). looking for a job when you are already here will certainly eats a lot of time.

so better have a job offer that will process everything for you before you come over.

wish you good luck

I am already working here in the Construction Sector so I know the situation better.

Silence from recruiters means that there is no recruitment going on.

Recruiters are paid on a commission - if there's a vacancy they will do all they can to fill it. If they aren't recruiting in certain sectors, it's because there is no demand.

I hope you don't think you'll be able to come to Doha, visit prospective employers and give them your cv. It doesn't work like that here...

You'll understand when you arrive.

So you mean you´re not expensive then ? As you are already working there...

You are very expensive. They can hire an Asian for the same job for 1/3 of your cost. That is the reality.

Don´t worry(be happy).

I´m not going over there witout an offer.

I´m just trying to get some "hook" for a new opportunity.....

Don´t know how to interpret the silence from recruiters, are they flooded by applications in these days or what?

I have to agree with Bluemountain.

Don't come unless you have a job offer. If you come looking for a job you'll almost certainly be wasting your time and money.

Planning to move means you have offer a job.

Looking for job means different.

Doesn't matter where are you from and experiences, the job here is not so easy to get offer unless they really needed urgently
