If I had ever heard of this kind of things happening in Doha before, I would never come to Doha!
We are moving to a new place at the end of this month and gave the landlord notice in April according to the lease. Now, when we are asking them for the deposit which is one months rent, we are told that we have to stay for the 13th month instead of getting the deposit back. But according to the contract, we will get the deposit back since we have given them 12 months' rent and 2 months' notice. How can this happen here?! They are doing this to our neighbours as well(Our neighbours are holding Australian passports and we are holding Canadian passport). Are they free to do this to expats just because they are local? Any legal aid we can ask for help?

If this is not solved yet then Just go to RENT DISPUTE COMMITTEE located near to TAXI HOTEL or Al Muntazah Area. It is located on the main road near MAJOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL ON 'C' ring road.

Thanks all for the warm replies and suggestions. I am not positive too in getting the money back. But I will try to report. I jumped up when I heard this not because of the money but because that i never knew and expected this could happen. If this can happen, staying in Doha will be an adventure--never know what is going to happen to you!!

here in Qatar. But you have 2 choices, either to stay & used-up your remaining deposit or file a complain in House Rental Dispute Dept. (office near Muntaza Signal).

they can do this to anyone they desire...maybe they had already spend all the money and doesn't want to generate money for the refund of deposit, they don't understand that that's why it's called deposit so you can withraw it after.
