Moving a Car from Dubai to Doha

Hi All,

I've been struggling to get clear info on the process / procedure on transporting a car from Dubai to Doha. I have a 4by4 late 2007 model which has Dubai plates till end July and Insurance till 16th August. I’m looking to start my new job in Doha on the 5th of August. Can someone advise me the best means of transporting the vehicle to Doha from Dubai, and the relevant procedure. I would like to have the car in Doha by the time I start work on the 5th.

If I was to ship it, any good logistics company in Dubai to use? what are the freight charges approximately, and are there any customs / import duties to pay in Doha if one ships the vehicle?

If I am to drive the vehicle to Doha, is it worthwhile? what paper work does one require? and is it an easy process i.e. getting through Saudi customs etc, also I am told there is an import duty of 5 % in Qatar? is this the case? some others say there are ways of avoiding paying this import duty?

many thanks and await your replies

I was going to be in Dubai for a conference in March and was thinking that I might purchase a good second hand car there and bring it over to Doha. I was looking into cars upto 4 years old max, ideally something around two year old.

Do you guys think it would be worth buying a second hand car from Dubai and driving it back to Doha? What would it cost overall when you include all the duties, licenses, insurances etc?

Apologise for the delay in replying. I was spending more time with Qatar people, than on the QL site :-). If you still require any info, then please leave a message and i will revert back at the earliest.

What means "RP" and "NOC" ? How much did Aramex charge you?

And yes, would be great to have further info.

Hi, I have recently moved my 4x4 from Dubai to Doha, and the process was relatively simple. I chose aramex to move my car. Their charges were reasonable (transported by road) and paid transit insurance on top of it. Now, when the car reaches the border, you will have to provide NOC from the company as well. If you have your RP, then provide RP, NOC from the company and the car can be registered at the border itself. As for me, I dint have the RP or NOC, still the car was delivered at my door step. if you need further info, you can send me a msg and i can guide you.

You'll need to de-register the car at RTA and get export plates. There are plenty of shippers to get your car to Doha from Dubai. GAC, or Crown are two of the larger (and more expensive) firms. You can sea freight or get it brought in via truck overland, others have driven their cars from Dubai, but that requires a transit visa through Saudi. If the car is a GCC car, no duties are required, but you will need the proper paperwork from the original selling dealer showing duties were previosly paid. If you do a search, there are a number of threads on this topic. One of the shipping companies can talk you through the whole process and provide door to door service.
