Handshake - how to say no politely

consciouseffort
By consciouseffort

I dont understand what's the best way not to shake hand with the opposite gender. Its not only Non-Muslims but Muslims also do the same stuff specially Arabic nationals. I do not want to sound rude but I need to make others understand that it is not permissible in my belief.

you mean bow down a little like Chinese greets.

Most difficult situation arise when there is a group of people and, a few ladies shake hands and a few resist.

Generally Indians/Western raise their hands to greet a lady, but avoid hand shake if in Abaya and offer 'welcome' greet only verbally.

more polite way i guess to bow ur head...like u r greeting Salaam to new commer...

normaly if he is elder he will put his hand on ur head..other wise..he will avoide to forward his hand to shake....

so try to compete before the oposite make a move...

Shake their hand one time, and scream like you are in agony. Jump on the ground roll around in pain, and make a big deal about charging them with assault, and when you walk off mutter something like "You will rue the day you messed with this one".

at my husband's work, there is a huge amount of women who deal with this on a regular basis. What his company has told them to do is when you are approached by someone you cannot or don't wish to shake hands with, take your right hand, place it at the base of your throat (not your chest!) and slightly bend your head in acknowledgement of the other person's greeting. Most people will not take offense at this but respect your wishes.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the main difference between a dog and man.

Many girls verbally greet and join their hands behind their back in an obvious way. Anyone would see she is not reaching out to shake hands nor has she any intention to.

Bend your head forward like Japanese greeting and respect. If not give a Military salute like some Chinese does. I think your intention will be well received.

it is not banned in any religion or culture as far as I know.

Is it unhygenice? Just as much as turning a door handle, flushing the toilet, handling goods in supermarkets that hundreds of other people have touched before you.

It is a sign of respect and good manners.

MKhalifa's answer is to the point but if u think men have dirthy minds, keep your hands on your tummy or forehead ( now, would dirty minds also have a meaning to this too ... ? )

Two things

first if you know that Man have dirty minds then why do you care and give them chance to approach to you for some reason

Second you must be good looking and attractive that you find this problem and share with all of us (Ooopps ... did i enter into the List of the MAN with DIRTY MINDS..?)

better not to shake hands, if you r uncomfortable. Will save a lot of ill feelings against other later. Mkhalifa's option is good, or you can smile and wish him verbally and move a little backward. This posture will give the other man a hint and he will withdraw his hand.

proper decorum is for men to wait for the women to extend her hand for handshake, given that situation i dont want to shake hand,i just give my buss, card once introduce, to keep his eyes and hand busy,

Sniffing butts might be your regular way, I am not interested in that though.

The problem is I have asked a very simple question & two answers I have got which are nice but still it will leave the other one embarrased. I am sure ladies out there must be using some trick where without offending others feelings they must be continuing with their official tasks. But the immature answers really can turn anyone's mood off when someone is genuinely looking for a good assistance.

Conciouseffort,

Keep a distance and join both hands together smiling and/or shaking the head (gently though!) and he should get it.

That day I went for a Company induction. One guy went to the washroom, and just rinsed his hands (no soap usage at all). Right after that he forwarded his hand to me and I just did not know what to do. So when he left I washed my hands twice. I told it to to my friend and he told me "in that situation you had to say namaste".

Sorry no hard feelings!!

Two excellent replies of M Khalifa & Dracula. Looks like wearing a glove on the right hand all the time would solve the problem. There would be a hand shake but no direct contact to hand itself.

They noticed that I don't shake hands, so they don't offer their hand. If it happens, then I just excuse myself. I once noticed that when I don't stand close to the person greeting me, the hand never comes up.
