Hi guys, is there any Gyms in Doha with top quality like Holmes Place chain?

I'm asking this because I've been reading quite a few complaints about Gym conditions and service level, in Doha.

Tahnks!

Vortice,

desculpa la', estava a pensar no ramada e acabei por escrever o hotel errado. ja' emendei e confirmo, o que queria dizer e' o Marriott com a vantagem de os treinadores prestarem de facto servico de treinadores, sem qq custo adicional.

Vortice,

Marriott hotel has a nice price for gym-pool-spa&beach.

It includes yoga (with an excellent teacher) and other activities.

well Qatarisun, that's is in fact the price of my current club, about 74 eur/month special corporate rate, it's about 370 QR. This gives me total acess to all holmes place clubs in Portugal and Spain. Prices over 400 QR/month only if you subscribe some personal training program, it could cost 250 QR for each our session... in a pack of ten sessions.... ouch!...

6000 a year? 500 a month?? OMG! vortice75, is that how much a regular Gym costs in Europe??

.. For your information, the average GYM's fee in Toronto is CAD40 a month, which is QR 130-135. Gyms are huuuuge, with tens and tens of different machines, and all other facilities..During special promotions one can be enrolled for CAD20-25 (QR 65-85) a month.

..This is especially for those who love so much bringing into every thread about Canada so-called “tax issue”. No any tax can cover the difference between QR500 and QR135. The most expensive GYM that I have ever come across in T.O. - with the golden lamps, exotic furniture and luxury hall - was about CAD100-120 (QR 400). But again, who really needs gold lamps and luxury, while shaking a sh** out of his muscles??

Ah vortice...

I have to be honest, the HUGE advantage is.. thus positive,

Member here means member there, meaning during your holiday your membership continues.

As for the rest, on Annual basis 5.500 - 7.000, you can find proper clubs for that amount.

hummm... I see...

no pool and difficult parking is a real turn-off!

As for the price... it's similar to my home country, a bit higher...

Ha ha sun,

Well...

I have a strategy, I pick up somebody from the entrance. Just ask him.....

"Mate, let me drive you to your car... I need your parking space"

By qatarisun• 7 Jul 2009 12:32
qatarisun

i never spend half an hour looking for the parking.. it doesn't take me less than 40-45 minutes.. and pretty often I eventually turn my vehicle back home, or some other more accommodating place..

I only go to CC with my hub, as this tender b***d can hang up for parking his huge car even in the air, if no any normal spot is available…

Jazzy

1 - it does not have a pool

2 - who the hell wants to drive to Shitty Center, look for parking for half an hour, 3 x per week.

3 - who will pay for a membership, just to pay for transport each time one goes there

Vortice, annoyingly they have no brochures - a sales bugger needs to talk to you, which I always bluntly reject.

They are extremely commercial and will over-load the gym in capacity.

I am not sure but I think there is something like 1000 - 1500 joining fee and after that QR 400 p/m.

Fitness First Shitty Center has become a compound gym for staff there :-P

dracula where is AKAI R/A?

I used to work out in the gym near Shaheen but have since closed since last year. I dont know if they have reopened. They used to charge 900 per year or 500 for 6 months. So I went to the gym (named Nero bianco) at the corner of Airport rd and Matar Qadeem beside Pizza Hut. They also charge very cheap.

Yeah Vortice cultural issues you just have to accept. Here they facilitate most demands society has, so if you want mixed... go and find it. Easy breezy.

As for your previous question, people neglect themselves for various reasons. Work is often an excuse, but I always wonder if they are really honest when they say this. One can loose weight by just regulating a diet, and if someone does not go to the Gym dropping down in your house and do push-ups, sit-ups, skip-roping for half an hour per day is not impossible.

Aspire is by far the lest expensive gym. And they have 135-plus classes a week for women. Sorry, don't know about the men!

thanks for the advice, I will certainly give it some thougth.

I agree with you, time management is realy tricky. I had schedule my free time on my agenda! I'm not kidding, I really did, and most of the time I manage to stick to it... except for urgent projects and crazy deadlines...

Do you think people tend to ignore their personnal needs when thaey are assigned for a short period on a foreign coutry?

Oh well, six days isn't so bad. Time Management now becomes key.

Most people, in my humble opinion, have more free time than they realize and are just simply lazy.

vortice, you comfort depends on your budget. Ezdan = QR 60, where other clubs that are a bit more up-scaled may cost QR 100 +.

Personally I would choose a cheaper, yet proper and clean, Gym, like Ezdan, and once a week schedule one hour for a full body massage at six sense at Sharq Village.

By vortice75• 26 Jun 2009 16:08
vortice75

Dude, You got a good point there... people really can't find the time to go to the club. I admit that the 6 days week concept really bothers me.

vortice75

thaks again Dude!

Yes, they have daily entrance fees.

Thank you so much leelah.

Do you have any clue if they charge per visit or just accept membership?

By anonymous• 26 Jun 2009 15:59
Rating: 2/5

No,

over a 100 classes per week, I do not think so. Aspire, maybe.

The market here is rather small and classes are difficult to sustain as a lot of people are here on a temporary basis, work 6 days per week hence simply do not have the time to attend classes. Consequently professionals, which are often to expensive, are not being hired. Most professionals work on part-time basis, or as a hobby.

What you describe is what we call "HOTELS', they have all facilities. Sharq Village might come close to what you want, Aspire may be moving in that direction.

I also know of a project that is in the 'pipeline' that will also come close to your concept. That is yet to be opened.

vortice75

Well, sure it's enough.

But what I ment was the kind of gym open from 7h00 to 23h00, 7 days a week, with over 100 classes prer week: body training system classes, plus pilates, yoga, hydrogym, personal trainers and spa... not only only machines.

Is there any simmilar club in Doha?

thanks

Best Health Clubs in town, and affordable...

- Masa Gyms (although they are depreciating + too many males)

- Ezdan Health Club (it is a perfect Gym for the average gym user, deliberately not designed/equipped for bodybuilders as I understood, which I agree with 10000% + proper pool)

- Aspire

Standard-wise Fitness First, by name and fame, should be the best. Howeverrrrrr it sucks, it way to commercial sleezy sales people try to traumatize innocent clients and the accessibility is horrendous.

the gyms in 5 stars hotels here are all insufficient and underdeveloped, not to mention the ridiculous prices.

Hi gfxmad ,

since how long are you working out in gyms? Seriously speaking, i think there is very less body builders in Doha. And if anyone want to develop their body, any small gym is more than enough!!!
