The National Human Rights Committee in Qatar has voiced concern over the treatment of housemaids and construction workers in its latest annual study, it was reported on Monday.

It also gave examples of discrimination against women, citing Qatari women’s inability to pass on citizenship to their children or husbands.

The report said there was concern over abuses committed against housemaids who work long hours and are denied a weekly holiday, Gulf Times reported.

you would always hear stories about maids, or workers being mistreated !! but how many stories of maids and workers being WELL treated do you hear about ??? of course no one would be interrested in reading these stories in the news or the "great" NHRC or UN would be interrested in !! i know a number of maids that are with families that fear God and treat them with the highest respect !! do not judge a community by the idiots that makes the news !! of course these idiots who treats people like garbage will get what they diserve one day !! in this life or another ! that at least i am sure of it !

but where is fairness anywhere else in the world? in any other arabic country, of course forget it, it would be easier to turn water into wine before we can find fairness in arabic countries !!

but how about the western world? or asia ? the second is the easiest and fastest, the world fairness does not exist in Asia, same thing in africa of course !!

but europe? US ? common, can anyone today go on national TV in the US and say i am a muslim? the FBI, CIA, CID even Jack Bauer would come out of the series 24 to arrest the guy !! is whats happening in europe fair? racism and discrimination is everywhere !!! and dont dare to say NOOO !!! a small example of the so called fairness in the so called civilized world: 2 people convicted of rape, (this story is from france, and u can check it online if you dont beleive me), so 2 people convicted of rape, one is pure french, the other is french national with arab (north african) origines, the frech was sentenced to 2 years in prison, where the arab got 10 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! same crime !!!!!! so they call that fairness?

lets have a quick chat on the UN !! they are soo worried about human rights? and about the wellbeing of the human race???????? common, just turn the TV on and watch what is happening in Palestine !! where is the UN to do something about that !!???

i lost faith in fairness and equal rights long ago, from the time i actually learned the world back in my school days !!

When it happens in singapore, taiwan & hongkong (or maybe portugal), it will be exposed in the media and it will be dealt with justice and under the rule of law applied equally to all (regardless their nationality).

As for Myanmar, well maybe you are right in comparing it with Qatar, as law is not applied equally and the media is also castrated, just like here in Qatar!

in singapore, taiwan & hongkong (or maybe portugal), even myanmar tried to expell rohungya people who lived there since hundred of years, by simply saying they're not the origin, and thais towed the overloaded-rohungya boats to an open see and leave them there without food & drinks (see "A Forgotten People" in CNN).

r they also having a hypocrisy rules?

Usually, these reports from the NHRC are published a couple of weeks before the UN or US State Dept publish a damning indictment on Qatar's human rights.

The NHRC publishes a weaker set of accusations, with a statement to say: "Yeah, we admit there's a problem and are dealing with the issue."

When the main report is published a couple of weeks later, they say: "Look, we already dealt with these questions a couple of weeks ago. The UN/US should focus on countries who don't have such a clear commitment to human rights."

If I were working at the UN, I'd stop handing early copies of the reports to Qatar. It's counter-productive.

What's new?

That is the reality in Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Amazing Muslim countries where hypocrisy rules and the world sadly closes their eyes to it because it needs oil!

Qatari will take it to their heart and mind,as most of their recent work is at the par of any civilized nation,

so will be treating with poor nationals going thier to ease their finacial burden.

I am sure things will be better will implentation in law and order.Documnet has no value unless followed by people.Wish positive changes after thsi report.
