Do Qataris and expats feel seatbelts are helpful?

In 2000, deaths due to Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) were the third leading cause of death in Qatar after the diseases of the circulatory system and cancer. Have Qatari drivers and expats increased the use of seat belts since 2005 when these articles came out? All of these were published by the Hamad General Hospital, Medical Statistics Group. Anyone work at Hamad Medical Corporation?

It is an old phrase from the UK but "Clunk Click every trip"

Seat belts should be used by everyone in the vehicle. My children never travel without a car seat and all passengers in my car wear seatbelts or walk.

What we also need is consistant and clear enforcement of this issue and many other traffic related offences.

I have never seen a local wear a seat belt. What really saddens me,is that while the adults can make the choice, the kids can't. I can't count how many times I've seen small kids use the whole cabin as a playground. Unbelievable...

Personally, I will not put the car in gear without wearing and make sure everyone in the car is wearing theirs.

Yes, Its very important to fasten seat belt once you enter the car. When you go for driving test also, first thing u do is put seat belt. Recently (Last week) one of my friend's car met with an accident. There were another two guys with him. One of was sitting in the back seat of course without seat belt. And the front tyre bursted and the car took a sharp turn and went off the road. The persons in the front seats were unhurt as they had their seat belts on. But the man sitting behind was seriously injured. So this tells us ' the traffic rules are meant for OUR SAFETY'.

Thanks

I can whole heartedly tell everyone that seatbelts save lives. Have been in 2 major accidents and only because of the seat belt(and God's grace), was I able to walk away from the wrecks.

In one of the accidents, the person who hit our car head on, wasn't wearing hers..and ended up in the hospital with serious injuries. My sister, who was wearing hers, hit the steering wheel with her head and only sustained a small cut...the girl in the passenger seat, who wasn't wearing hers..went through the windshield. She survived but not without head injuries and losing her front teeth from hitting the dashboard.

Whatever is in the car when you are involved in an accident, becomes a missle. That includes children and anything else that isn't tied down. In the case of children, they aren't old enough to make the decision to put one on...so please BUCKLE UP YOUR KIDS!!!! Even if YOU don't choose to wear one!

No i think it is not like that. I have never seen any Qatari during my one year without fastning seat belt.

During my last three years stay in Qatar.... I would have hardly seen 5 Qataris fastening their seat belts. On the other hand....most of the expatriate community use seat belts.
