Qatar Customs & my DVD's

By jimbobuk1

My family & I are moving from the UK to Qatar for 2 years and our furniture is being transported in the next few weeks. I hear constant horror stories of DVDs, etc being censored / going missing in customs.

We have a fairly large collection (200+) of films and don't want them to go missing...they are just "regular" films not xxx.

Titles vary but I have sampled some below:

Aliens / Alien v Predator
Starship Troopers
Dog Soldiers
Severance
Chronicles of Riddick
Dogma
The Last Boyscout
Resident Evil Set
I am Legend
The 51st State
Shaun of the Dead
Termiator
Hancock
Stardust
Bend it Like Beckham
The Lost Boys
The Bourne Trilogy
American Pie
Pretty Woman
Scary Movie 4
Pochahontas (Lot of other Disney as well)
The Break Up
S.W.A.T.
Saving Private Ryan

Is there a list of DVDs which will be

Can anyone give me some advice on this?

Many Thanks, Jim

I have about 100 DVDs. Will carrying them in their case, in my checked luggage, throw up any flags?

I brought 500DVDs on the plane from the UK in 2006. They did get stopped at customs and I was told to come back a week later.

When I went back the customs guy had a chat to me and said they were stopping them mainly because there were so many and they were checking that I wasnt trying to sell them. When I explained I was moving here to work and showed him my work visa, he had no problems and let me have them back.

They have a Virgin Megastore here and a Entertainment chain called Saqr and they sell all the latest DVDs anyway so they dont really seem to have a problem with them anymore. You are more likely to get stopped because of how many you have rather than what you are bringing in.

And usually get my DVDs back early the next week :-)

I'd be more concerned about light fingered customs officials than an over-zealous censor, hence my advice to have them in your checked luggage rather than your freight.

and I am kind of wondering what makes you think they would be. You must have heard some crazy stories :-)

i have been bringing in DVD's by the dozen, every trip out of here, nobody has even questioned me about them. never had them shipped though, just bring them in my luggage

I currently have around 400+ dvds in 4 caselogic cases ready for shipping, but would rather leave them in the UK if they are likely to be confiscated. Are there any 'rules' or is it just how lucky you are on the day?? I really don't want to lose them all!!

Forget about your dvds, they wont copy those things...

You have small collections...

don't worry about your DVD's , most of the people here have all new movies downloaded in torrent...

customs here in doha when i brought in 13 box sets of dvd's(desperate house wives, lost, dexter, nip and tuck)from dubai.

btw it was inside my luggage, not hand carrying it.

when asked what desperate housewives is,i answered "dnt you watch it at ShowTime?"

they will question the quantity and a provocative cover of the dvd,but they will not confiscate it.

if its a duplicate copy,maybe.

best that you have them boxed and shipped here.

You and your DVDs will be fine. I think that all of these titles have been shown at the movies here.
