To marry or not to marry?

citygirl
By citygirl

So, I have been dating a guy here in Doha for a few months (Not a local guy) and things are going really well. However, friends have been telling me to be careful when I stay over at his place. Is it true that being caught staying over at a guys place here is punishable by jail and deportation?!! Should we both just get married? Or just be more discrete- if so, it just takes one call to the police for us both to have our lives ruined...:-(

We are both from Europe and in our 30s...anyone else been in the same situation??? What should we do?

LOL Didn't think my post would generate such a wide range of responses! Have no idea yet what I will do, but will just see how things go. Marriage is for life and I just don't want to rush into anything just yet- but who knows it could happen sooner than I think :-)

Thanks once again.

so not to worry even u had a "LOUD S*X" and an "illegal climax"...

but if the only reason is to save u from getting caught...

please...don't add to the unevitable rise of divorce rate...

hmm if I'm going to break the law, then I would prefer to know the details of exactly it was that I was breaking, and therefore be able to take some measures to not be caught. Not do something never knowing if I am doing something wrong or not. But hey, feeling guilty over what I consider to be irrelevant laws has never been my strong point.

gypsy, when both are still clearly NOT ready, there is nothing to talk about.. but pretty often, even BOTH are ready, in the western country they still might maintain common-in-law relationship, live together, have mutual assets, etc. In Qatar the question “Why Not Now?” is pretty much valid.

I got married after 1 year and a half of nice relationship..our neighbours were very good and patient..lol..

brit, "Do you get married for the sake of it or because you feel its the right thing to do at that certain stage of a relationship?" ...

i was asking myself the same question at some point.. and the answer is actually easy: if we lived in my country, I most likely wouldn’t get married, but since my guy and I are all right anyway, plus the local law encourages people getting married, so ya’any, WHY NOT?

Marry if you want to have a legit and legal relationship in Qatar - but remember, its a lifetime commitment. Or another simple solution is just not to sleep over :)

I wouldn't worry about it. Most people in Doha turn a blind eye to this type of thing and it's quite common, especially for Westerners, to spend the night at their boyfriend or girlfriends place or even live together without being married. Just don't have loud sex and bother the neighbours.

By malfoufeh• 8 Jul 2009 08:19

i dont think you will have problems ... usualy police will not come to ur house if nobody called and said something .Plus if you're the only girl that come to his house neighbours usualy they will not complain ...

AND i have an idea if you are not sure that you want to get married now from him just give the neighbours the impression that you are husband and wife they will not ask you for the marriage papers :P

Ok Citygirl.. Are you really serious about getting married. Well here is my advice. If you are serious about your boyfriend and he is serious about you then you should tie the knot because you both want to, not for the fear of being caught in the act.

Marrying for the sake of not been caught and be deported is a lame excuse. You know the laws of Land, so stop sleeping around with someone you is not married to.

Again it is upto you what you think of marriage, and what will happen to this marriage when you decide to go back to your country.

Good luck and hope you make a sensible decision..

If you really wanna marry him... just marry and not just because you want to spend nights with him. that sounds odd...

If you are not yet sure about marryin him... just play safe without being caught at your own risk.

You really want to marry a guy for spending "SLEEPLESS" Nights at his place...hmmm...o well...when you're cooking dinner, make sure to INVITE US (cos now we know :P), and the nieighbours too...cos soon they'll also know ... :P

Jokes apart...just make sure to stay safe...and try not to get tooooo noticed by people around...in other words, ensure he is staying in a decent place where neighbours dont butt in to other's houses...!

Yes, it is very much true that being caught staying over at a guys place without being married to him, is punishable offence and you will be jailed and deported later. So you better get married to avoid the humiliation. Also after knowing about the law, you will not be able to spend the night at his place so happilly. Some sort of tension will keep bothering you.

It takes a minute to find that special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them but then an entire life to forget them…

I dont think you should just marry someone just so you can spend the nights over at his place..zeus christ whats wrong with you kids now a days. Just be more discrete and remember do not even tell any close friends of yours, no matter how much u trust them you never really know. Plus neighbours too. Be safe.
