Is the iPhone used at full advantage in Qatar?
I'm debating whether to get the iPhone 3G or a new Blackberry phone.
Here's the issue. i LOVE touchscreen phones and i fell in love with the iPhone for all the apps it has. The only issue is that (and this is for all my Doha iPhone users)
Are you guys able to use the apps despite the need for the internet? I mean, back in the States, they offer unlimited data plans because the iPhone apps are always being updated via the data plan. I'm currently subscribed to the 575 Shahry Plan and that only offers 10MB. I'm already hitting 9 per month just using gmail and browsing the net on a daily basis.
I like the Blackberry ONLY because it has the ability to offer unlimited messaging via the BB Messaging Network. Currently, with the 575 Shahry plan, I only get 100 sms. However, if I purchase a blackberry and pay QR 175 extra per month, I can get unlimited messaging to all my Blackberry users worldwide. It's also a nice business phone.
However, I'm torn between the two because I really like the look of the iPhone but also like the size/dimensions of the BB (however it only offers the advantage of unlimited messaging... and that's only for BB users)
So help me decide. Let me know if the iPhone works great for you here in Qatar and how much do you pay per month using the apps that you have, because I've heard the iPhone eats up a lot of data.
Thanks!
Currently there is no plan from either Qtel or Vodafone that allows any sensible use of data on the iPhone (or other phones, for that matter).
This issue was raised to the Vodafone CEO on QL itself, and he promised that "data bundles" are coming; and he sounded like they will be somewhat reasonable (hmmm... hmmm.. and hmmm..) !
Until then, maximize the use of WiFi for your data needs. If Vodafone comes up with a reasonable plan, that will cause many more people to switch. Is QTel listening to this ? ;)
In about two months Vodafone is talking on I-phone. They are the contracted service provider for I-phone. They say two months, but who knows. We were supposed to be on the short list, but seeing is believing. So it may be worth it when Vodafone sells and services the phone. Only problem in this country is that they charge you per megabite what you view from the internet. It spoils all the fun...
I wouldn't get an iPod touch because I can only use it with WiFi then and not the Qtel's Moziac Mob... and even if i could, I don't want to lug around two devices.
By the way, what problems are you guys facing with using the iPhone here?
Bad choice...
If it's the apps you're in love with, why don't you get yourself an iPod Touch as your personal media player and a BB (Javelin or Bold)? Combined, the price would come to nearly the same amount (taking in consideration you go for the iPhone 3GS instead).
You get the same experience with the iPod Touch and better battery life too.
Unfortunately, the I Phone does not work very well out here at all.
I have one and am not really able to use it.... :-(
