Apple iPhone question

Hi,
Just wondering if its cheaper/better to get a locked iphone from the US and get it unlocked in Doha? or buy new in Qatar?
Does anyone know how much an iphone costs in Doha? whether locked or unlocked. We may be moving to Qatar soon.

Thanks

@crazyjoy, find me a 32GB factory unlocked 3GS in Qatar and I'll buy 10.

The cheapest I've seen so far is Starlink at 3,800 and also seen them for 3,100 in HongKong.

If you bought it for 3,100 then there's delivery, risk of customs tax, and/or damage. best case it would be 3,400 to your door :)

Anyway,

I recommend getting an iPhone factory unlocked rather than unlocking it because everytime you update you will have to worry.

If you want to unlock it just use iPWN.

You can unlock the iphone by urself. Just google it, and there are variety of sites which gives u enough info to unlock ur phone. I just upgraded my OS, unlocked the phone, and am loving it.

My friend got his 3G unlocked for 100 QAR (26$).

I have an older generation iPhone.

Then both our phones got locked when we downloaded the new O/S => I got mine unlocked for 50 QAR (13$).

I think my friend got the same bargain or may have paid nothing (since the guy knew him already and had just unlocked his phone shortly before).

This was in Naser Street, 2~3 months ago.

Donno if prices vary by phone or by customer (arab-speaking vs. western expat..) :)

if you get a phone from australia, it is factory unlocked .... i guess thats the best option. and a new 3GS 32 GB should cost you just Qr3100 brand new.

Thanks chmb. So it means I'd be better off bringing from the States? mainly because it would be cheaper, is that correct?

If I am not mistaken, they are around 2500 - 2700 riyals in Doha for 16gb.. This was from while ago, so prices may have changed - if u do a search on qatar living u can find ur answer! good luck
