Religion and moving with the times...

Islam on Facebook

I was travelling through Salwa road, towards the airport when I saw these bright new signboards.

To be truthful, I first noticed them because of the bright blue ‘facebook ‘ logo, which my grandchild had recently introduced to me. I’m currently having a blast connecting with old friends, some of them who are well into their 70s...

Islam on Twitter

Back to the topic, I was pretty amazed about how the website was using modern gadgets... Facebook, twitter and google... to connect to today’s youth.

Islam on Google

I searched the internet for Islamweb. I found it, but could not find where the site was hosted from. Anyway, I would like to congratulate them for moving with the times. I hope their efforts do attract more youngsters and even more interaction.

I wish them all the best.

I hope all you people who have learned to respect eachother's religion will also respect those who are not religious and who are atheists

Hi! The website host is located in Canada. To know where a page is hosted just download the addon for Firefox called "Flag". It'll show in the address bar a little flag of the country hosting the page.

This is the link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5791

cheers

Sometimes it will all depends on interest on the perculiar subject. The younger generations internet addict has thousand of sites that suites their taste. Maybe this one is of less priority and will not achieve the visitors level target.

Reminder 1 - This forum is not suppose to be a another Boxing Ring.

We have many arenas..... :)

Ya youth are found on net and not on religious scriptures.

But don blame us.... net is more entertaining and noone tells us tht it is good for you. We like surfing. and know it is good in some way or the other.

Many are minting Millions, Net today is a Omnipresent world knowledge bank, everything is jus a click away.

All human fantasies are made into Games.

All thks to the fact tht we are net addict.

Even if we have to move with time, theres a need to appreciate and adjust one self. Sensitivity to change and appreciate new facts. We don't have to glorify too much past events while rejecting new inventions that we are enjoying in this century.

In these times, Islam has to prove to young people that it still has some relevance to their lives.

In the West religion has been crowded out by the distractions of modern life, teenagers would rather facebook, youtube, myspace and xbox than think about Quaranic studies.

This attempt to engage with this audience should be praised, Islam has to move with the times and provide a relevance to the young people's lives in the 21st Century.

Finally..

Nice to see this....

In present world.. being together is all wht we need.

I hope this has some Kinda +ve effect on the extremist Groups... they are not in Sync with the other part of the world and tht is why not comfortable with it.

If you are part of the system... you ll change it for good and you too change unconsciously.... but for good...

Nice...

And Johny - The owners of the companies....

Even if they where fully Jewish... still they would have had done this....

In corporate world.... Money talks...

They neither love a religion or hate any. The only JOb done religiously is to mint Money.

They sell and Buy emotions.... For Profit sake.

And we get emotionally attached to make them richer.... :)

Jewish or not, religious tolerance is what matters for peace. I see no other solution but to accept the diversity True tolerance is when everyone cooperates be it in business whatsoever. Not all Jewish and not all Muslims are enemies.

That was very thoughtful of you. I was going to add something similar in my post, but found that I could not edit my original post once I had posted it.

Thank you for speaking out what was in my mind. Friends, the reason I posted this was not for religion bashing. Kindly refrain from it. Thanks, everyone.

this thread is about the advertising in Qatar of these web 2.0 services by Islamweb and how they are embracing modern tech, what that means, etc.

any religion bashing will be moderated since this is on the frontpage.

Examples are some prayers are now conducted through a webcam to PCs at all houses now. No need for the faithful to gather at prayer location. Useful in times of H1N1 virus as well.

One problem in the past has been that the "theologians" and religious leaders have been out of touch with the nw generation and technology in general.

This is a good move.
