Hi, I'm new to Qatar and while I've seen what the guide books recommend, I was wondering what people who have actually lived here for a while like? I'm from London and I know that there, the best things are NEVER in the guide books! I look forward to reading your suggestions!
been here for 15 days and i've seen many beautiful places in doha... so far, corniche and villagio are my faves... i've been to wakra beach last night but got disappointed as the water can be reached by walking for more than 500 meters from the shoreline... must be the low tide that made the beach water into drought... LOL!

The Qatar Natural History Group organizes outings into the countryside (when it is cool enough), usually one per month. There are some really neat places that members know of and are willing to take people to. As we go as a group, it's a safe alternative to striking out on your own and getting lost or stuck in the sand.

The corniche at sun rise is amazing (make sure you have a cuppa and a cig)

I think places maybe not announced in a guidebook would be:
1-To be hosted by a Qatari friend to their own home.
2-To go dune bashing with a Qatari driver, no other nationality can be as adventurous.
3- A Qatari wedding.
4- A farm (I've never been to one).
