Freedom of Expression/Freedom of Speech?
Hey okay so this might sound dumb but I've searched around the internet for allot of my questions and I just get lots of answers that differ greatly so I'll just ask here! So I'm wondering is there actually freedom of speech/expression? Can you say something like "I think Qatar is ****ing dumb."? Also I don't know how the government works fully, is there a voting system? I heard there's a queen there so I'm guessing not... but I don't know. Please help me out here :).
Qatar is one of the countries that support the reasonable criticism and expression
I'm not trolling I'm actually looking for answers... But I already got my answer so I'm find of this question...

" Dont take life too seriously, you will never get out alive!!!"
Pedro,Qatar is a monarchy,so no there's no voting & even if there was,as a non-citizen/expat you wouldn't be allowed to...unlike in your home country, citizenship isn't granted on the basis of having lived here x no: of years, every non-citizen/expat working adult is sponsored & given a work visa by their company, they in turn can sponsor their immediate family based on the income bracket they fall in,so your mum will be sponsored by the organization she'll be working for & you will be sponsored by her...as for freedom of speech,in all fariness, this country has taken huge steps in that direction, although being far from actual freedom, this website is itself proof of that, some years ago,a website/open forum like this wouldn't be allowed so freedom is a relative expression but no,you can't speak your mind if it's against local authorities, there are avenues to make formal complaints,in fact all major Govt. institutions actually have a complaints dept.,again, something that was non-existant some years back so that's progress in the right direction as well but that's about it...to the rest of the QL'ers, why the hostility people??...the kid's 14,obviously never lived outside the US & is at least making the effort to find out more about the country he's moving to half way across the world with his mum so please...
Pedro, I'm afraid that coming to Qatar from the US is going to necessitate a paradigm shift for you. In the US there are very clear cut, written rules for behavior that apply to all. That is not always the case in Qatar. The law sometimes appears to be "casuist", that is, applied on a case-by-case basis. We are not being coy or confusing, it's just that the laws here are somewhat fluid in their application and tend to change frequently. Can you say this or that? It may depend on the day and to whom and where you say these things. You will NOT be able to point to a written law and claim that thus and so is your "right."

.. and it's actually better for you that this country is not free, some good example of FRAMES is exactly what you need, P.
not yet a free Country..
It seems that for a modern kid, you're not very good at utilizing the internet. All your answers can be easily found through Google. Just type "Qatar" in the search box..
Good luck!
This is a STATE. The ruler of this state carries the title of an "Emir", which is "Prince". There is no voting, there is a ruling family. Yes we have freedom of speech, and you can say whatever you want, just bear in mind that being offensive or unjustly critical (and if you're not from here, common decency implies you have no right to criticize anything) to the country or it's citizens also gives them the freedom to "kick your a**". And when they do...boy oh boy are you in for an "a**whoopin'". So when you're here, enjoy what's on offer and keep your thoughts to yourself!
this is kingdom, so no voting, and majority part of world you are not completely get freedom of speech , so no discussion
WHat does having a Queen have to do with the voting system or lack of?
Ever heard of England?
As for freedom of speech....yes so long as you don't critisize
1- the Government
2- high ranking officials
3- laws
4- ..........anyone care to add to the list? I know it must be longer than this
"When you're in Rome, do what the romans do"
No Freedom of Speech in this part of WORLD.....so better be careful

Whenever I find the KEY to SUCCESS...Someone STEALS it.
There is no queen here, because there is no king here. The proper translation of "Emir" would rather be "Prince". A king is a "Malik". Hence, all we got here is a "Princess". (For your information).
