What would your film be about?

You may have heard that the first Doha Tribeca Film Festival (www.dohatribecafilm.com) will happen in no time! There have already been a few workshops encouraging filmmakers in Qatar to make 1-minute films, and there will be more filmmaking workshops in the next couple of months. If you could make a short film, what would it be about?

Now for realz...

I'd like to make a movie adaptation of Sindbad's voyages set in the present day. Sindbad would be an Iraqi (with all the "fortune" being one entails today) setting sail in a dhow from Basrah, and instead of encountering rocs, gigantoid snakes, brazen horsemen, he would encounter rude coast guards, visas, territorail waters, Somali pirates, hostile navies of all kinds from far off lands, reckless borderline suicidal kids on jet skis, rich folks and their massive yachts...just like in the real gulf of today! I think a genuine Sindbad in such circumstances would make a setting for some truly profound situationist comedy :)

Or maybe a documentary on the fine art of tipping an offroader on two wheels and having the passenger balance precariously on the car's exterior striking poses. Evel Knievel didn't have squat on them Tarzans, and they do it for free! Pure artists!

Gimme a crew, let's make money :D

Although I must admit, it is very hard to make meaningful, touching, relevant movies in places of relative easy living. You need some dirt & grime or some adversity to really exploit it and make it into something that works well in a movie. Something that portrays a triumph of the human spirit despite the obstacles. Those movies speak to me, and I guess most people too...

Please don't rip me off ;)

Miss xx.xx and mr.Khan

no seriously,

it would be about the "hello my future girlfriend" guy. Poor sod, made a website at 12 because he felt it was weird he didn't have a girlfriend. Now he knows why. HE'S GAY :D

Or maybe it would be about world records with city transit. Or family days, the parking lot at Doha city center, but most of all, I think it would be about using QL for all the small things like looking for "general employment" to searching for an "experienced medium to communicate with the dead".

Actually if you do a movie on that last one I'm suing you. This is about the only all out weirdness trainwreck that exists in Qatar to my knowledge. If you make a move about it, you owe me.

Or better yet, buy me a cup of coffee and we'll share ideas. NO SUCH THING AS FREE LUNCH :D
