Why are people so mean on this thing?

princess33
By princess33

I have been on Qatar Living for about a year, but didn't become a member until now... I am shocked with how MEAN people are to each other on this thing. Personal attacks on each other!!!!! I thought this web-site was supposed to be for people who needed help or could give help and provide a common ground where people could get to know each other? WHYYYYYYY do I keep reading:
That's a stupid question!
You're so lazy.
Don't be stupid.
If you don't have the money, it's not your right.
You are a liar.
and many other things that are much worse....

I assume the creator of this website had much better intentions than to have everyone attack each other on this website, sah????

And, please don't attack me for writing this - I also, have good intentions - I don't think it's right for anyone to feel bad about giving their opinion or trying to help, or asking questions - even if they can easily find the answer elsewhere, why can't they find the answer easily here?

a lot of oldies here who are arrogant and condescending..honest

In this modern world, internet is the great equalizer.

By Eagley• 4 Sep 2009 08:15
Eagley

It's not mean if people would see beyond their own little worlds.

By the way, the fact that some of the "rude" comments are from long time members of this group - it's not because they are arrogant but they have seen the same ridiculous posts before and some people just like poking fire, out of their own boredom.

Note that these long time members can recognize a troll by the way the poster writes, etc. That comes from experience in being on this forum longer than the newbies.

That is why whenever there is criticism, we should always look to see the bigger picture, find out the background to the situations before jumping to conclusions. To those who assume that the old timers without verifying or getting their facts straight - it's not the old timers' problem. People should learn to get a life. The world does not revolve around them. It revolves around no one individually but all of us collectively.

And another thing about the oldies using harsh words on each other - that's actually just banter. Don't take things personally. Many of them actually know each other.

Some are just plain crazy and nasty but it takes all sorts to make the world. Looking on the bright side - it's always best to be faced with a difficult situation, get over it / overcome and become a stronger person.

/To those who object to being names "oldies" - get a life... I mean, please. :0)

Anyway you are right, people should be more civilized with their responses, many of the members left their homelands & families to come & work here, so respecting each other is the least we can do!

But isn't the instant gratification of posting what every newbie wants to do, as opposed to sifting through archived threads?

You have a good point - I've seen some topics that just didn't need to be posted. Although that's a different topic all together, it does go hand-in-hand with mine - this website is meant to inform and assist on topics related to Qatar, and of course for new friendships to be made that will make "living in Qatar" easier and happier - I think this website is a great one, but needs a little self-cleaning. No need for rude, mean, and impolite comments, just as there is no need for completely inappropriate, having nothing to do with Qatar topics... But for the people who DO post such inappropriate things (either mean comments or unnecessary topics), if they are ignored and not responded to, I'm sure the number of these incidents will be reduced. Enshallah!

Yes princess, must agree that the vast information in posts in the lounge such as "what is love" or "friendship" are so invaluable that no one need dare make jest at them.

Sorry - gotta run and feed my hungry kid so I'm answering fast - the liar post is on something about Elder Tree Nursery (I think - or some other nursery) and the money comment is on a link about maids, I think. One is talking about someone lying about working at the nursery, and the other is talking about someone not being able to afford paying their maid 3000 QAR a month....and someone is telling them they shouldn't have a maid then.....In my humble opinion, those are comments best left unsaid. I believe both of the forum topics were valid questions, yet it became terrible, full of bashing.

Ok - so why can't this site be funny - thus, more interesting....without the side-order of mean bashing...

I have noticed it's very cliquey in here - some people banding together. But, my suggestion is to band together on some other site or MSN or something and leave this website for the people who truly need it. And, if you are long-time members, and are very knowledgeable, we NEED you - but nicely.

Some people come here, not knowing ANYTHING about this country, and come to this website for help. It's a great idea...if it works!!! So what if they ask 5000 times what "points" mean? It takes as much time to answer their question as it does to tell them they are stupid and need to look it up in the search area, and then have another discussion with other members about how stupid they are...

By Gypsy• 1 Sep 2009 12:11
Gypsy

If all the older people on this site up and left the site would loose half it's audience. Therefore Qatari would not be able to afford to continue running it. Like it or not we "bashers" are what make this site tick.
