I observed that most of the supermarkets have raised the price of food items. The shops mostly belongs to Muslims and are they trying to get huge profit during this holy month instead of providing some relief to the common people?
Are they away from the principles of Islam?
Their is a raise in demand of food items during month of Ramadhan. And their is a fall or short of supply on some produce during this month due to short working hours. We all know that most of the food items are imported, and their is some short of transports, so this is also another factor for the prices to go high.
The shops are mostly not run by Muslims. They may be the owner, but very seldomly the manager. If an Indian or a European runs a shop, why would he care about the spirit of Ramadan. His boss wants to see money!
Yes, I was their at least in four ramadan, but I could not find so much price hike there. Also One popular milk company is giving particular percentage discount their.
It is called 'Business' . Business is not haraam in Islam. If YOU find a particular shop is selling at higher price, chose the second option. Goto some other shop. Islam doen't tell anywhere that YOU cant earn huge profit during the month of Ramadan. I personally DON'T think it is 'away from the principles of Islam'.
