I am kind of thinking of myself. I don't need a FT maid or nanny, but would like an occasional sitter so I could get out later in the day/evening for a night with my hubby or something. I'm not there(yet) so I don't have a clue as to how things work there. I do know that once my live in sitter is away at college, I would need back up.
next fall, God willing. We will then just have hubby, myself and 10 year old boy here. I was just hoping to keep her from being bored silly closed up in her room playing wii.:) Haven't even gotten the job and I am dreading the prospect of an 18 year old in a strange place away from her plans and associates and job. But we can't leave her at home yet either!
Theres always that chance Shellyjean. But on the whole the filipino women out here have a good rep and are the best with kids. But i wish your husband luck on his interview and if he gets the job looks like he will have two kept women on his hands!!! LOL
I just keep seeing all these people anxious about the different cultures, live ins and unknown factors, I thought that perhaps an American, college educated young woman with a local family might be a desirable kind of sitter for those who didn't have or want a live in babysitter or a fill in for emergencies(like all the scary stories I keep hearing). A back up, if you will.
Hi Shellyjean, Your Daughter probably wont get any babysitting work as well off families have maids or nannies and those that dont can pay a Asian peanuts to do the job.

I used to BE a live in nanny/housekeeper, but in NJ. It kind of amuses me to even THINK about having live in help.

I dont think an american will deal with this kind of job..
So long as she is competent and the family concerned are happy with the arrangement, I see no problem.
shellyjean, I'm not sure if she would need a permit to babysit. It wouldn't be a job so you can start with people that you know.
Good luck.
