Vacating a flat before contract ends
Hi! My sister signed a contract which is valid until the end of this year. I live with her together with other Filipinos. Unfortunately, she had to shoulder the rent for a vacant room and for mine because I lost my job more than a month ago.
The agent said we can only leave the place if my sister will pay 2 months rent. How can this be? We want to vacate the flat because we cannot afford it anymore.
Can anybody share their thoughts on the matter?
Thanks
hi everybody,
does anyone here know about the qatari rental law, for vacting and the notice period to be given to landlord by the tenant??? pls advice.
Thanks for all the comments. My sister talked to the accountant of the landlord a while back. She was told to call again tomorrow if ever the landlord will agree to pay only 1 month for the rent. I will post whatever the outcome may be. Thanks again zhbby!
no problem... best of luck!
It would be best to talk with your landlord rather the rent dispute committee. what's your concern is definitely in the contract which binds your sister to a legal obligation. it was you who lost the job but your sister still has.... in which also the flat contract was named after her. I bet your sister has released cheques until end of this year. The only thing you and your sister can do is to talk to your landlord and ask if he may reduced it to one month only. That is a win win solution, you are out of the flat and the landlord still has one month to post the vacated flat. You dont have much choice now, your landlord has your cheques.
I hope you're right ocean565... thanks for the comment.
Thanks for your reply zhbby. You are right, the contract said that prior to the maturity of the contract, one should pay 2 months in case the person wants to vacate the place. And that is where the problem started. We are in a tight fix as I have mentioned in my original thread. It is impossible for us to raise the money.
Do you think the Rent Dispute Committee can do something?
ask your sister if she had tried to talk with your landlord regarding your situation. you may ask him if he will be considerate enough to waive that condition. i doubt it, but you can always try.
yes zhbby is right..However, on humanitarian basis, you are not obliged to pay as you dont have the income source.
you may double check the contract your sister had signed. usually, that matter is included in the contract that whenever the tenant decided to vacate the flat prior to date/month it will be ending, the tenant is obliged to pay 2 months of its rent. That is for the landlord's security as well.
