child seat belts

While driving in Doha last night I witness a sad incident. A man was driving with his child on his lap. He had to make an emergency stop and his childs head impacted the steering wheel. The poor child was bleeding and crying. Many times I have seen children not properly secured in vehicles. Is there not a law regarding child safety in vehicles here in Qatar?

Many parents here "happen" to be parents, it's not by choice. They even "happen" to be married, and it's not their choice either. So, why should they feel responsible?

A very handsome North Kingstown Police Department, along with the State of Rhode Island on Highway Safety, inform and assist the public with motor vehicle occupant safety. During safety programs such as "Click It or Ticket ", officers perform safety check points on local roadways to promote the use of seat belts and properly installed car seats. While a check point is set for a week during high travel times of the year, officers are available year round to offer help to concerned motorists. Just a simple call can generate a meeting with one of these officers to offer useful information or a child safety seat check-up.

as far as the parents wearing seatbelt, it is all that matter. Who cares about the child?

They are already playing in the streets at night only with go-carts, motorcycles and other recreational vehicles with no lights or anything reflective. Including the proper wear of helmets.

Why do people hang CDs from the mirror? Is it so decorative?

....there is a lot less "window dressing" with stuffed toys now a days....

I think the parents are just as thick as two short planks one has to wonder whether they have the brains to drive a car in the first place......but, if they're prepared to sacrifice their child for their own stupidity they might as well ask their children to go play in the main road........

Could we find anything on the Koran about disobeying the government laws?

I consider it immoral to have those kids without a seat belts.

Taking care of the children is the prime responsibility of every parent.not only the driver but also the other people in the vehicle must put on their seat belt.safety is better than repending later.

Agree with MD, most of the people here are dumb and ignorant..thank you

What I see here is that people either are dumb or ignorant. Even a carton of tissues can become a deadly bullet in a car. CDs hanging from the mirror can be throat-cutting knives. So, let's assume that people are dumb. If that's not the case then they should be called criminals because they play with lives of others!

There is the infamous youtube video of a Qatari man driving with his baby sitting on the steering wheel.

Sadly I don't think people will ever learn and it's the poor, innocent children who suffer. To me it is child abuse not to ensure your child is safely strapped in a car seat or using a seat belt.

in this region subscribe to. But in the end, it's just a stupid rationalization for not doing what would keep your children safe.

Especially in light of recent stats on road injuries per capita in Qatar ("Qatar suffered four times more injuries in road accidents per 100,000 people than the second-placed country, Kuwait, and tied with South Africa for the most road deaths, the report shows."), you'd think they might want to start enforcing the laws on the books.

I feel sorry for the kids who have these people as parents. But I guess it's just Social Darwinism in action.

I hate to say this: Body bags come in many shapes and sizes, lately toddler size is very common.

I lifted two body bags in my life and plenty of coffins. Still is not a good feeling to find out the reason for death it is stupidity and lack of safety.

I see children with no seat belts on all the time. Jumping up and down in the back, on someones lap in the front and leaning between the 2 front seats from the back!!! Do some parents not care for the safety of their children or what?????

There are so many accidents here and a child would fly through the front window should a car have an accident and most probably result in death.

Please peeps keep your children seatbelted in the BACK of the car otherwise you could find yourself laying them to rest before you pass away.

there is a law. No children under 10 in the front seats. Unfortunately this law is not enforced. Did you take the guys license plate # and report him? Maybe if he got a large fine it would impact him rather than his child. poor child has an idiot for a parent.
