Muslims fast for one complete month just prior to EID. Fasting means they DO NOT Eat ,drink between Dawn to Dusk. They are supposed to control their emotions and and NOT supposed to do following also : quarrel, get angry ,speak bad, have sex during dawn to dusk ,think bad, backbite .It is a holy month for praying and for applying physical as well mental restaint . It gives great psychological strength. So after one month's fasting and self restraint EID is a day when mass prayer is held in morning and then celebrations are done .if a person can apply self control for one month he/she learns the importance for food and does not waste food ,does not fight /criticise and imbibes good social values for the whole year. Therefore EID is A DAY OF SELF VICTORY AGAINST ONE'S ARROGANCE AND INDISCIPLINE.

EID-UL-FITR is celebrated on the first day of Shaw'waal, at the completion of Ramadan. Shaw'waal is the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. The Eid-al-Fitr is a very joyous day; it is a true Thanksgiving Day for the believing men and women. On this day Muslims show their real joy for the health, strength and the opportunities of life, which Allah has given to them to fulfill their obligation of fasting and other good deeds during the blessed month of Ramadan.
