Go to QAWS and you may see the type of dog/puppy you want. That way you can also help those poor dogs that have been abandoned by their previous owners. But as our fellow Qler said, this is a huge responsibility. It is like taking in an infant and welcoming him like a part of the family. You can never get fed up to it, or leave it on a desert when you get tired.

Goodluck.

Have you done some research on Goldens before deciding that this is the breed for you? They're mouthy, they get big fast and get smart slowly - basically they stay a 70 - 80 lb puppy for up to 3 years.

Are you prepared to brush it daily - it takes a lot of work to keep a golden looking and feeling good (that's why you brush not for the pictures but for the health of the dog).

Where will it live - it needs cool temperatures because it was bred to live in cold climates - so it will have to be indoors with you and you family all the time - dogs are extremely social and need their families. They also need lots of activity - are you prepared to take it for runs (not walks) at least 2x per day for 30 - 45 minutes - they also love to swim.

Because they are retrievers they will pick up and chew darn near everything while they are pups and mouth everything they can get their mouth around. are you prepared for the dog slobber on you and your possessions?

Dogs have to be spayed/neutered, get annual vaccinations (QAR300 approx) and there's always at LEAST one unexpected visit to the vet per year - and that visit alone will cost you about QAR200 just to get in the door, let alone having to buy medicine or require some other kind of care. Are you able and willing to pay for all these (the costs the first year alone for vet/vaccinations will be upwards of QAR1200)

Then you have to feed him - that will cost 100-150 QAR/month depending on which quality food you buy - dogs should not eat people food - it's not good for their digestion, body odor or skin/hair condition nor is it good for the healthy growth of a puppy.

If yes to all of the above, maybe you are ready. If you answered no to even one of the above - rethink your choice. QAWS has lots of good dogs looking for good homes - all you have to do is make sure you meet the dog ownership criteria (if you don't then again, you should rethink your decision - if you really love dogs you will understand if you don't qualify via QAWS)
