Can anyone tell what English Modern School is like? I have a job offer to teach there.

I say accept the job!! the school is fantastic. I recently enrolled my son there. The staff are all friendly and well informed. The school is having a swimming pool built which will increase the demand of students...the assistant principle is very nice, extrememly friendly and helpful...im sure he can sort any problems out for you when they arise.

The environment is relaxed and excellent for kids. The location is a bit hard to get to, as the traffic is RIDICULOUS!!! But that seems to be the only bad thing.

I would recommend you look very closely at the teaching faculty, the management/administration, and other private K-12 schools for comparison purposes.

In the GCC, the words English, American, International, etc. in the name of the school does not necessarily mean it is of a British, American, or International standard/quality/curriculum. I'm not saying EMS is trying to present itself as something it's not - I don't know them at all - but if you've never worked in the Gulf and haven't done YOUR homework - you might be surprised when you land here to discover that it isn't what you expected.

Ask them lots of questions, ask to be put in touch with teachers already working there, what are the salary and benefits being offered - all of these are very important to successfully acclimate to working in the Gulf.

You might go to daveseslcafe.com which has a little info on K-12 schools (mostly on the UAE though) that might help you in your research and formulating questions to ask your potential employer.

This is not to scare you or to slander EMS - they want good, qualified teachers who will be happy no doubt - to be that, you have to be informed.

I ever sent my kids to have a test entering Kindergarten 2 (KG2) in English Modern School (EMS). My son pass the test. But I sent my son to the other school because the second school is close to our house.

My experience having a little conversation with teachers in EMS, telling me that they are great and warm welcoming. They speaks english in nice way. I guess some of them are South Africans. They are welcome to everyone. The school is expanding the building, so demand is increasing.

As a teacher, you will be happy working there. The school is not so strict, having good tolerance, and good environment. But, if you are a strict teacher, I think it is not your place. It is located in public housing, very quiet.

Congratulation.
