Do I need to have a driver's license here even if I have already an international driver's license?

You must have a local driver's licence. The traffic rules in Qatar are unique. Even if you come from the highest developed country with millions of cars in the streets, Qatar is different. Do yourself a favor, take driving lessons and learn how to slow down before speed cameras, use the emergency lane to jump ahead of a waiting cue, learn how to cut lanes in roundabouts professionally, learn how to circumvent speed humps, and learn how to use the mobile, smoke, and drink tea at the same time, while steering the car with your knee. Only then you have a chance to survive! (And don't go for a small car!)

If you are just visiting then there is no prob; use the IDL.

But if you have Qatar RP or Qatar ID YOU MUST HAVE a valid Qatari Driving License.

Otherwise fines and penalties could be as high as 50000 QAR for driving without a valid driving license or without license at all.

Regards!!

International Driver’s License allows you to drive for a limited period only, as soon your visa is stamped on your passport you will require to get your original license exchanged for a local license.
